Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: We recommend a basic four-step routine. And we pretty much recommend this routine for everybody, morning and evening. And that routine is cleanse, tone, use a serum, and then a facial oil, or a moisturizer.
Customer: Can I say something? I just got my sample packet. I used it last night and the cleanser smells great.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh good. I'm sure that's probably the Aloe Herb Cleanser. That's what usually comes in the trial kits. Yes, it does smell very good. Grace always says that she wishes she had it in a candle because she loves the way it smells.
Customer: Yeah. So if I wanted to buy that in a cleanser, is that the one I would get or is there a different one that I would get?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So we have a few different ones, which we will go over but the Aloe Herb Cleanser is a great choice. That one is really good for all skin types. So I do tell people, if they are feeling confused or overwhelmed or not sure where to start, that's a great place to start.
But so that basic routine, that four-step routine is what we recommend. I do like to tell people that I recommend just kind of finding what works best for you and what works best for your skin and your lifestyle. So if you are somebody who has no routine currently, you're probably not going to jump into a six-step routine that takes you 30 minutes morning and night that you're going to do really consistently. So at the very least, you want to have a cleanser and a moisturizer. That's the most basic routine that you want to have, and then you can kind of build from there.
Customer: Can I ask you another question, is your oil what you consider a moisturizer? You don't have a lotion.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: That's right. So all of our facial moisturizers are oils. We don't have a cream. We may have that someday, but today is not that day.
So basically whether your routine is two steps or 10 steps, you're going to start with cleansing. So we will start with cleansers. Cleansing is going to remove makeup and impurities from the skin. A thorough cleanse is going to help prep the skin so that it can better absorb all of your other products, your treatment products.
We have four different cleansers in our line. And actually, before I even jump into those, I will start with collections. So within our line, we have a few different collections. We have the Signature Collection. That is all of our products that have the tan labeling. These products are a lot of our best selling products. A lot of these products have been around since we got started.
Then we have our Wild Alchemy Collection. All of our Wild Alchemy Collection products have black and gold labeling. Our Wild Alchemy Collection is our luxury line. So the products in this collection contain higher levels of activated ingredients. They contain more exotic ingredients. And a lot of times the crafting process, the way that they're made is just a little bit more laborious. And then lastly I do usually mention our Essentials Collection. The Essentials Collection is just two products. It's the Renew Facial Cream Cleanser and the Radiate Oil. These two products are offered at a lower price point than any of our other products. And the reason for that is just that they are very simple formulas. They don't contain our herb infusions, so that is why they're offered at a lower price and it's just the two products. But I do like to mention this collection because it can be a good option. It can be good for more sensitive skin types because they are simple formulas. Or it can be good for somebody who's just getting started with a skin care routine. I also like to mention it because I know Grace and I both really like the Radiate Facial Oil.
So, back to cleansers. All of our cleansers, all four of them, are pH balanced. I think this is important because your skin's pH is between 4.5 and 5.5 on the pH scale. All of our cleansers are between a 5.5 and a 5.6, which is actually printed on our packaging. But so this is important. You want a pH-balanced cleanser because that's going to ensure that you're not stripping your skin, you're not drying it out, you're not disrupting its protective barrier, your acid mantle. A lot of conventional cleansers like drugstore cleansers tend to use harsh surfactants like lauryl sulfates that make them more alkaline. They have high foaming properties and that sort of thing. For all of our cleansers, we use a safe low foaming surfactant. It's a sodium lauryl glucose carboxylate which sounds very fancy, but it's really just plant starches and sugars and saponified oils. So the first cleanser that we'll talk about is the Aloe Herb, which we already mentioned.
So this one is in our Signature Collection. This is our best-selling cleanser. People love this one. If you ever get one of our trial kits or starter kits you've probably tried this cleanser. This is what usually comes in our starter kits. Like I said, this one is great for all skin types. So if you're confused or overwhelmed, this can be a really good place to start. It is a creamy cleanser, so it's a creamy consistency. It's got some coconut oil that contributes to that creaminess. It's got some lemon oil in it, which is purifying and brightening and helps to give it that really nice scent. This one has calendula, which is a really soothing herb, so it's good for sensitive skin or if you have any temporary redness. And then aloe vera, of course, aloe is rich in vitamins and minerals, phytonutrients, and enzymes. It also contains some naturally occurring saponins that act as mild cleansing agents on the skin. So this is a great one. We also have our Citrus Mint Cleanser. That one is the other one in our Signature Collection. And that one is for normal, combination, and oily skin. That one is our purifying gel cleanser, which also has aloe in it. And then it's got herbs like neem, which is really detoxifying and rich in vitamin E. It has a witch hazel distillate that helps to tone and balance the skin. So just a more purifying herb blend in that one.
And then in our Wild Alchemy Collection, we do have two cleansers in that collection. Let's start with the Phyto. So the Phytonutrient Cleanser in our Wild Alchemy Collection. This one, again, is good for all skin types. I would say it is our most rich cleanser. So it's a creamy texture, the way that the Aloe Herb is. But a little bit thicker, and a little bit fattier texture than the Aloe Herb. This one has coconut oil in it as well, but it's got a mango seed butter that really gives it that fatty texture. This one also has apple extract in it, which is rich in vitamin C and malic acid. So it helps to brighten the look of skin. This one has our signature serum blend. It's got some acai in there as well. I really love this one. And then the Restorative Cleansing Oil. This is the last one that we have. This one is also in the Wild Alchemy collection. This one, as the name says, is an oil. So all of our other cleansers, just like any traditional cleanser, you're going to dampen your face, massage your cleanser in, and then rinse. This one, you actually apply it to dry skin. So use dry hands, dry face, and massage it in. This one is great for all skin types. So for dry and mature skin, it feels very nourishing. It actually leaves a little bit of an oil on the skin. And then for oilier skin types, it's great as well. Like, if you are prone to congestion or anything like that. Because like attracts like. So the oil is going to help to soften and break down excess oil and congestion in the skin. So when you are massaging it in, if you tend to be more oily or have congestion, really focus on those areas of congestion as you massage the product in. Like around the nose, down around the chin, and mouth area, or the forehead a lot of times. And after you massage this product in, you can just rinse it off. A lot of people like to remove this one with a warm towel. Or if you would like to use it as the first step in a double cleanse routine, you could follow it with a second cleanser, whichever one you prefer. Aloe Herb, Phytonutrient, whatever you like. So those are the cleansers. So questions about cleansing or cleansers.
Customer: What was the name of the one before the oil again?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: The Phytonutrient Cleanser.
Any other cleanser questions? Okay, cool. All right, so after you cleanse, then the next step in your routine is toning.
We have three different toning mists in our line. They are the Rosemary Toning Mist, the Neroli Toning Mist, and the Botanical Hydration Mist With Immortelle. So toning is going to just complete the cleansing process. It's going to offer a dose of hydration and skin-supporting nutrients. It's going to help to rebalance the skin after cleansing. So like I mentioned, all of our cleansers are pH balanced, but you still are going to want to rebalance the skin after cleansing because if you're cleansing with water the pH of water is like seven. So you're still going to want to use your toner to kind of rebalance the skin. Then, let's see, let's start with the Neroli Toning Mist. The Neroli Toning Mist is in our Signature Collection. This is our best-selling toning mist, very popular. I think, again, because people love the way this one smells.
This one is good for all skin types. It's especially good for normal, dry, mature, even sensitive. It's a very simple formula, so it's an aloe vera juice base. It's got some aspen bark extract in it, which acts as a natural preservative in the product. It's also a natural source of salicins, and then the neroli, which is derived from fresh orange blossoms, so it gives it that really nice uplifting, sweet scent.
And then the Rosemary Toning Mist. This is my personal favorite, but like I said, I'm kind of a more congestion-prone girlie, so I like this one. The rosemary, again, it's a simple formula. It's the aloe vera juice base. It's got the rosemary in it, of course. This one has white willow bark, which is another natural preservative and a natural source of salicins. This one is great for normal or combination skin or oilier skin. I really like this one.
And then the Botanical Hydration Mist. This one is the one in our Wild Alchemy Collection. You can see this one comes in a little bit larger size. The bottle is a little bit bigger. And this one it's good for all skin types. This one is especially great for sensitive skin. It has a blend of four different types of chamomile. It also has some rose in there, which is really soothing and nurturing to the skin. This one has frankincense in it as well. Which is known to tone, tighten, and rejuvenate the skin. And then it's got Immortelle, of course, or Life Everlasting Flowers which are a potent antioxidant. Scent profile wise, this one definitely is more herbal than the other two. But this one I would say is the team favorite. Internally, I know Grace loves this one. So those are the three toning mists. And so to use your toning mist after you cleanse, after you rinse, you pat dry, and then you just mist your toning mist over your face, I like to apply my serum and my facial oil while my skin is still damp from my toning mist. Which is not what our packaging says, but that is what I recommend. And then your toning mist you can also mist after you apply your facial oil. That is what I like to do. You do not need to do that. That's just a personal preference thing that I like to do. I feel like it dilutes the oil a little bit more and just leaves a really nice finish on the skin.
You can also mist your toning mist throughout the day if you want a little extra hydration or if you're somebody who's more oily and you want a little bit of that kind of mattifying effect, you can mist the Rosemary. So those are the three toning mists that we have. Any questions about toners?
No? They’re kind of straightforward. Okay, great. Then the next step in your routine would be your serum. So serums are excellent hydrators. There's the difference between dehydrated skin, which is water dry skin and dry skin, which is oil dry skin. And that is why we recommend using a combination of a serum and an oil or even the toning mist and the oil. Because most people have some of both. They have some dehydration and they have some dryness. So using the combination of hydrating products and then moisturizing products is going to help you achieve optimum moisture levels in the skin, which is just going to help to create a healthy skin barrier.
And so your serum and your toning mist, those are your hydrators, and then your facial oil that is your moisturizer. So serums in general are excellent hydrators. They are made up of smaller molecules than a facial oil, so they're able to penetrate more deeply. They usually have high concentrations of activated ingredients, so they allow you to really customize your routine to kind of target and treat whatever your specific skin concerns are.
And we do have several different serums in the line. I feel like serums are where things can start to get a little bit confusing for people sometimes. So in our Signature Collection, we have the Anti-Aging Serum, we have the Probiotic Serum, and then we have the Citrus Stem Cell Serum, which I actually don't think that I have that one. But those are the three in our Signature Collection.
So we'll start with the Anti-Aging Serum. This one is our best-selling serum, one of our best-selling products always. People love this one. This one is good for all skin types. I like to refer to it as a daily dose of overall skin nutrition.
It's very antioxidant-rich. It's soothing. It's got some rose in there. It's got buddleia extract. It's got life-everlasting flowers as well. And then it's super hydrating too. This one has a non-GMO vegetable-sourced hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that binds water to the skin. It holds 1,000 times its weight in water so it's considered a super hydrator. So it helps to really deeply hydrate the skin, which is going to help to plump the skin. So if your skin is dehydrated then it's going to kind of emphasize the appearance of fine lines whereas really hydrating it and plumping it is going to minimize the appearance of fine lines.
Customer: How do you recommend, what's your recommendation for applying it?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So after you mist your toning mist you want to pump one to two pumps; probably two pumps of your serum into the palm of your hand and then you can choose. Some people like to rub it in their hands and then kind of press it into the skin. Again, I like to do this when my skin is still slightly damp from my toning mist, or you can kind of dab it on chin, forehead, cheeks, and then massage it in.
Customer: Okay. Cause I think I tend to drown in my product.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Like you use too much? Yes, I do that too. I am definitely a product overuser.
I feel like more so with my oil than with my serum, but I tend to overuse it. I would say that two pumps of your serum is probably good. If you want to do three or something, it's not going to hurt you. But that is the Anti-Aging Serum. And then let's see the Probiotic Serum. This one is also in our Signature Collection.
This one again is good for all skin types, but especially sensitive skin or skin that is kind of out of balance. This one has a probiotic ferment in it, so that is going to help to eliminate impurities on the surface of the skin and help to kind of rebalance the skin's pH. This one also has astaxanthin in it, which is a really powerful antioxidant. It's got some olive leaf extract in there. The Tremella mushroom of course, which acts similar to hyaluronic acid, really deeply hydrating the skin. That is the probiotic.
And then lastly, in the Signature Collection, we have the Citrus Stem Cell Serum.
That one is good for all skin types, but especially for thicker textured skin, more resilient skin, that maybe has had a lot of exposure to the elements. That one is also really great for targeted brightening. So, if you have dark spots that you're working to lighten the look of this can be a good choice.
It has got citrus-derived stem cells in it. We use plant-derived stem cells in a lot of our products. And these stem cells provide proteins and peptides and amino acids that are really going to help to strengthen the skin. This one has also got licorice root, uva ursi, and amla berry. That's the brightening trio in this serum. Licorice root is often used in natural products as an alternative to hydroquinone. So again, really good for, lightening and brightening the appearance of dark spots. So those are the three serums in our Signature Collection.
Then, in our Wild Alchemy Collection, I actually don't have that one either, which is weird. We have our Wild Fruit Serum. So, the Wild Fruit Serum, I kind of like to refer to it as our do-it-all all serum. I would say in general, the serums in the Signature Collection tend to be a little bit more targeted. And then the serums in our Wild Alchemy Collection, they're a little bit more all-encompassing.
So our Wild Fruit serum, I like to refer to it as our do-it- all serum because it's hydrating, it's brightening, it's anti-aging. That one has got madonna lily plant cells. So we just talked about the plant cells. This one has a really dense infusion of plant cells. There are about 1.5 million active plant stem cells in each little bottle of the Wild Fruit Serum. That one also contains copper-infused water. The Wild Fruit Serum has knotweed extract, which is rich in resveratrol. It also has apple extract. The same apple extract that is in the Phytonutrient Cleanser with the malic acid and the vitamin C. And then this one also has kakadu plum extract. Kakadu plum is another really potent source of vitamin C, which is going to help with brightening the look of skin. It also contains phenolic acid. Phenolic acid behaves on the skin similarly to an alpha hydroxy acid. Alpha hydroxy acids help to kind of dissolve the glue that holds the top layer of skin cells. So it's gonna help with brightening, with improving texture and tone, that sort of thing. What else in the Wild Fruit Serum? So that kind of sets that one apart a little bit, for me anyways. I feel like that's kind of a factor in that one that really sets it apart. And I love that one.
Then the Activated CBD Serum. This one is also in the Wild Alchemy Collection. If you look on our website it's sold in its own little CBD boutique, which is just because of the legality of selling a CBD product. But this one, when we created this serum we partnered with Ojai Energetics because we wanted to source the best CBD that we could. And they are really a leader and a pioneer in the CBD space. This one, so CBD, it's a little bit hard to say exactly what it does for the skin because it works with your body's natural endocannabinoid system to really go where it's needed to go and do what it's needed to do. But I will say this one is very hydrating. So it's got the hyaluronic acid as well as the tremella mushroom extract. It also has a little bit thicker texture than some of our other serums. And this one is great for sensitive skin types. It's very soothing. It's great for irritation and soothing temporary redness in the skin. It's also got astaxanthin in it. It's got mangosteen oil, black cumin seed oil, a lot of really great ingredients in there. And I always let Grace talk about this one because she loves it so much.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Oh, I do love the CBD serum so much. I, so a little background on my skin type, I have extremely sensitive skin, I have extremely dry skin, there's usually just a lot going on, and the CBD serum kind of comes into play for calming the redness in my cheeks. I always tell Emily that this serum was such a game changer when I first started at Annmarie and started using the products because for a while I was like, I have no idea if anything's gonna work for my skin because I'm so sensitive and everything just seems to make my redness worse. So this has been a lifesaver for sure!
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Thanks, Grace. Okay. So that is the Activated CBD Serum. And then we have our Activated Night Serum. So this one is our most recent serum launch, and it's a pretty awesome one if you ask me. This one contains our bioactive A-Complex. So this bioactive A-Complex is our alternative to using retinol. Traditional retinoids and vitamin A derivatives are not great for your health. They can be harmful to reproductive health and other things, but they also are not great for your skin health. So if you use a traditional retinol or retin-A or something like that over an extended period of time it can cause some irritation in the skin. It also can start to thin the skin, which is not really what we want as we age. We want to create really healthy, resilient skin. So we wanted to create a product that kind of offered an alternative to traditional retinol and that's why we've created this serum. The bioactive A-Complex, is actually derived from algae, so it's a completely safe ingredient.
It has a similar effect on the skin as retinol, it has that resurfacing effect on the skin. So it’s really great for targeting signs of aging, it can be helpful for brightening as well. This one, as the name suggests, you only want to use at night and you want to use it with an SPF during the day. Because it does make your skin a little bit more sensitive to the sun, which I speak from experience, do not forget your SPF when you use this. Let's see what else…we’ve paired it with a lot of really soothing ingredients. So it's a nice combination because you have that kind of active bioactive A-Complex paired with the soothing blue chamomile and the lavender. It gives it a really nice balance. But that is the Activated Night Serum.
And then lastly, in the serum category, we'll stop after these ones so that people can ask questions. We have our Concentrated Boosting Elixirs and I usually talk about the elixirs with serums.
So our Concentrated Boosting Elixirs come in this set of three. A lot of times people ask if the elixirs are a necessary product. Do we need to get the elixirs? No, definitely not. They're just kind of a fun extra product. They allow you to really customize your skin care routine a little bit more. They also allow you to boost the level of activated ingredients in your products. So if you're somebody who is using the products, but you're like, “gosh, I want to see more results”, it’s a good way, like I said, to kind of just up the level of those activated ingredients.
The set contains the Hydrate, which is a hyaluronic acid with vegan collagen pre-peptides. Then it contains Brighten, which is a vitamin C, a pure vitamin C with seabuckthorn. And then lastly, it’s got the Revitalize which is the bioactive A-Complex with astaxanthin. So this Revitalize Elixir has the bioactive A-Complex. It's the exact same ingredient that is in the Activated Night Serum. So that same retinol alternative. And then this one, we've paired it with the astaxanthin, which like I said, is a really powerful antioxidant.
The Brighten is a pure vitamin C with sea buckthorn. For this one, the vitamin C that we've chosen, it's a tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate or THDA. And the reason that we've chosen that particular vitamin C is because it's very stable. A lot of vitamin C products on the market, you open the product and it goes rancid really quickly and then it's not effective. Another thing that's common with vitamin C, a lot of them tend to be really irritating to the skin, this one has a pH of 7 so it’s not irritating. And so that is the Brighten Elixir.
And then the last one is the Hydrate, which is the hyaluronic acid, which we already talked about, the humectant that binds water to the skin. And then this one is made with the vegan collagen pre-peptides. So the pre-peptides are going to help with firmness and elasticity. Again, really strengthening the skin.
And the way that you use these, they come with this little dropper top and they're a pretty liquidy kind of aqueous consistency. And so you always want to mix them, you never use them directly on the skin because they are very concentrated. So you would pump one or two pumps of your serum into the palm of your hand, and then you would just drop one to three drops of your elixir. And then you can mix it and just press it into the skin or dot it on however you like to do it. But those are the elixirs. Let's see, I'm trying to think what else about them if I forgot anything. Again with the Revitalize Elixir, because it has that bioactive A-Complex in it, you just want to make sure that you're using an SPF and that you're only using that one in the evening.
Okay, questions about serums or elixirs? I know that's a lot. We have a lot of serums. No questions? Anybody? No? Wow. Okay. All right. Well, moving on then.
So after you use your serum, then you're going to apply your moisturizer, which like we talked about is your facial oil. So all of our facial moisturizers are oils. The reason that we've chosen oils is just that oils are more pure. They don't require any fillers or waxes to be used. So, they are easily absorbed by the skin. Your skin naturally uses oil as a moisturizer. And we have, again, several facial oils in the line. Let's see, we'll start with the Signature Collection. We'll start with the herbal facial oils. So we have three different herbal facial oils, which I tend to not go into too deeply because they are named for the skin type that they are designed for, so they're sort of self-explanatory.
But we have the Herbal Facial Oil for Normal and Combination Skin, the Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin, and then the Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive Skin. I don't have that one here, but all three of the herbal facial oils are a grapeseed oil base. So grapeseed oil is a really light-textured, skin balancing oil. It's rich in omega 6 and vitamin E. And then each just contains a blend to support the skin type, like I said, that it's made for. So the Herbal Facial Oil for Oily skin, that one's got white willow bark in it. It's got neem. It's got the black cumin seed oil. The Herbal Facial Oil for Normal and Combination Skin. This is a skin-balancing oil. It's got tamanu in it. It's got echinacea. This one has some chamomile in it and some goji. So soothing, antioxidant rich. And then the Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive Skin. That one has no added essential oils, so it makes it a good choice for sensitive skin. It's got a bunch of different omega-rich oils in there. It's got sacha inchi oil in it, camellia seed oil. It's got squalane as well. So those are the three herbal facial oils.
And then we have our Anti-Aging Facial Oil. This is our best-selling facial oil. That one is in our Signature Collection. It's great for dry and mature skin types. It is a jojoba oil base. So jojoba oil very closely resembles the texture of your skin's natural oil. So it's a great choice for dry and mature skin. As a company, that's what we recommend. I personally think it's a great choice for all skin types. I love jojoba oil. I'm like a jojoba cheerleader over here.
So that one is a jojoba base and then it's got a bunch of different seed oils in it. It's got broccoli seed oil, carrot seed oil, and chia seed oil, chia is rich in vitamin B and zinc, for example. And then that one has got goji as well. It's got Plantago in it, which is an herb that helps to soothe dryness and purify. So this is just a very nourishing facial moisturizer for dry and mature skin.
And then lastly, in our Wild Alchemy Collection, we have the Rejuvenating Facial Oil. Oh, I guess not lastly, because I'll mention Radiate. The Rejuvenating Oil is one of my favorites. And this is our most potent facial oil, our most active facial oil and that is because of the way that it's made. So all of our other facial oils contain a dense herb infusion. So there are maybe 15 to 20 herbs in the herb infusion for say the Anti-Aging Facial Oil. This facial oil just has one herb. It's the butterfly pea flower. And then with our other facial oils, we have maybe 20 to 30 different seed oils in there and 15 different CO2 extracts. In this one, the Rejuvenating, there are far fewer. And the reason that we did that is just because we wanted to create a more potent, more active facial oil. So by including fewer of these ingredients, we were able to include them at higher percentages. So the Rejuvenating Facial Oil, like I said, has the butterfly pea flower in it. It's got some blue tansy. It has mongongo oil, which is really softening to the skin. It makes your skin feel very soft. This one also has brightening baobab. It's got marula oil in it, which is very antioxidant-rich. So that is the Rejuvenating Facial Oil. I think that's it. Oh, I was going to talk about Radiate too. So the Radiate Oil, that one is the one that I mentioned earlier that's in the Essentials Collection, that collection that just has the two products in it. The Radiate Oil, like I said, it's just a really simple formula, but I do really love that one and it can be a good choice again if you tend to be more sensitive. And I know Grace uses that one and loves it as well, so I always just like to include it. I don't wanna leave it out. But those are all the facial oils. And when you use your facial oils…so after you apply your serum, maybe you want to give your serum just a minute to kind of be absorbed and then you can just apply your facial oil right over top.
If you wanted to, you could mist your toning mist again and apply your facial oil. Like I said, I mist my toning mist after I apply my facial oil. So it's just kind of all personal preference. And as far as how much you use like I said, I tend to overuse my facial oil, but probably two pumps or three pumps would be good, and just kind of massage it into the skin, and that's it.
So questions about facial oils or facial moisturizers?
Customer: I don't know about this question. I was going to ask you for a recommendation. I don't know if you want to do that later for my skin. I'm getting wrinkles in this zone right here and nothing I've used so far is stopping it. It’s marching on. So, considering I'm not sensitive, but I do tend to be, as I said, most of these products I've tried before for aging skin just make me super oily. So, what would you recommend that I start with?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Okay, so you already got the starter kit, right? So that one, I believe, comes with the Aloe Herb Cleanser, the Anti-Aging Serum, and the Anti-Aging Facial Oil. So I would definitely give those a try. They are our best-selling products. They're very popular. And I feel like if you like them, you could start there. I would also, in addition to those, if you like those 3 and want to get those 3, I would say it might be nice to also get the Activated Night Serum. And you could use the Anti-Aging Serum that comes in your kit in the morning, and then at night you could use the Activated Night Serum or the alternative option would be to get the Concentrated Boosting Elixirs, and you could mix the Revitalize Elixir in with the Anti-Aging Serum. Because then you're going to be getting, with either of these products, you're going to get that bioactive A-Complex into your routine, which is a really effective ingredient for addressing signs of aging.
Customer: Oh, sorry, even, even though it's already there, they're there already. It will help it smooth it out.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, I mean, I think people need to have realistic expectations. So, you know, it’s not like a procedure at the dermatologist, especially with natural products, natural ingredients, really anything though, it's just that consistency is key. So being really consistent with it. But like I said, I think if you like those products in your starter kit, just adding this Activated Night Serum at night or getting the elixirs and adding the Revitalize at night to your Anti-Aging Serum would be a good place to start. So you're getting that bioactive A-Complex in your routine.
Customer: Okay. Thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Of course. Awesome. Any other questions about anything? It doesn't have to be oils.
Customer: Okay, well I'll ask another one then. What do you have for brown spots? I have like one decent one right here, but do you have a recommendation for that?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah so we have a few different products. Maybe, now that you're mentioning that, I wonder if it might be good to get the set of the elixirs versus getting the Activated Night Serum. Because the set of elixirs comes with the Brighten Elixir. So, with your Anti-Aging Serum, you could mix one to three drops of the Brighten Elixir in the morning, and then you could mix one to three drops of the Revitalize Elixir at night. And so then you're addressing both concerns. With the vitamin C, you're helping to brighten the look of those dark spots. And then, the Revitalize actually would help with that as well but also targeting the signs of aging as we talked about. And then if you were to get the set of elixirs, they also come with the Hydrate Elixir. So you could use that one as well, you could do in the morning, maybe two drops of Brighten and one drop of Hydrate. And then at night, maybe you want to do two drops of Revitalize and one drop of Hydrate. Or maybe in the morning, you want to do two drops of Brighten and two drops of Hydrate. And then at night, you just want to do three drops of Revitalize. With the elixirs, you can kind of mix and match them like that. You want to do, in general, like, one to three, maybe four drops. But that might be a good place to start.
Customer: Okay, thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, awesome. Okay, so those are serums and elixirs. We did oils. I do want to talk about our sunscreen because we did talk about our products that have the bioactive A and you always want to use an SPF with those.
We have our Sun Love. It's our everyday sheer sunscreen. It's an SPF 20, so I always say that's good for just everyday wear. If you're going to be out swimming, sweating, laying at the beach, etc. then you're definitely going to want to reapply. It's a non-nano zinc oxide. It's reef safe. That one has got buriti fruit oil and pumpkin seed oil in it so you can, because it's got those oils in it, it’s really nourishing to the skin, so it can be used just on its own as your daytime moisturizer or you can use it over top of a facial oil if you prefer it that way. That's really just personal preference. And then, let's see. We've got our eye products. So if you want to incorporate an eye treatment product, we've got our Anti-Aging Eye Cream and our Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum. Both are excellent. I usually tell people if they're going to just choose one or the other. I personally recommend the eye cream. I just think it feels really nourishing for the eye area. This one has damas rose plant cells. It's got cucumber in there, which is rich in silica, and of course is cooling, good for puffiness and that sort of thing. They can be used together. So if the eye area is a major concern of yours, then you can use these two products together.
And to do that, you would just layer the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum underneath the eye cream. With the eye serum, I always like to tell people, make sure you're using a very tiny bit. Otherwise it just doesn't apply nicely. This one does have pineapple ceramides, it's got sake peptides, so also if dark circles are a big concern of yours, the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum can be a nice one to incorporate because those sake peptides, they can kind of have a retexturizing effect on the under eye area to help to lighten and brighten.
I do usually touch on exfoliants a little bit because I think exfoliation is important in a routine. It's kind of a fine line because you want to make sure that you're incorporating some type of exfoliation, but you don't want to over-exfoliate because you don't want to cause any irritation or inflammation in the skin. We have three different exfoliants. Exfoliating is going to help to remove build-up on the skin. So a lot of times, if people are really dry, they'll say “I'm so dry and I'm using all of these really hydrating and moisturizing products, but I still feel so dry. What am I doing wrong?”
A lot of times, if you're not incorporating any type of exfoliant or exfoliation you have this layer of buildup and then your hydrating products, your moisturizing products are not able to penetrate to really work effectively. So the Ayurvedic Facial Scrub, this one is a dry powdered herbal exfoliant. It's very gentle. So everybody can use it, all skin types, even sensitive skin. Most people could even use this one daily if they wanted to. This one you can just shake it into the palm of your hand and then you can mix it up with some water to create a paste. You can also shake it and then just mix it with whichever cleanser you use, which is how I like to use it. Just nice to kind of save a step. Multitasking is always good. Like I said, this one's very gentle. It's got fenugreek in it. That's what gives it kind of its little bit of gritty texture.
Then we have our Kaolin Micro Exfoliant. That one is our cream exfoliating scrub. Mine is in my shower. But it's a little bit richer. You still can use it if you have sensitive skin. I know Grace still uses that one and likes to mix it with her Aloe Herb Cleanser; that mixes really nicely just to make it a little more gentle if you want. That one has green kaolin clay, so any clay is going to be purifying to the skin and very mineral-rich. It's got lavender essential oil, so soothing. Lavender is the scent profile. I would say that one you would want to use two or three times a week, for most people. That one again is a physical exfoliant, so it has crushed bamboo powder in it that gives it that scrubby gritty texture that's physically polishing the skin.
And then lastly, our Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant, that one is a little bit different, it is a chemical exfoliant. So chemical in the way that it works on the skin, not that it contains a bunch of chemicals. That one, you use it a little bit differently. You apply it kind of like you would a mask. You just apply it to clean skin. You leave it on for two or three minutes to start, and then you rinse it off. You want to make sure that you are removing it thoroughly, you're only using it in the evening, and you're using it with an SPF during the day. You want to start by using it for just two or three minutes and then you can work your way up to using it for 10 minutes depending on your skin type.
That one you just want to use once a week. But it's got honey-derived lactic acid in it. So that is the exfoliating component in that one. And it's a very mild alpha hydroxy acid. So we already talked about alpha hydroxy acids and how they kind of dissolve that glue holding the top layer of skin cells to resurface the skin and help to improve texture and tone.
So those are the exfoliants. And then the only other thing we've got is masks, which we'll just do really quickly. The Charcoal Cacao Mask. This one is very antioxidant-rich as well as clarifying and purifying. This one contains activated coconut charcoal. So it is black. So, use a dark towel when you use this one, because it will stain your towels. That one you would only want to use once a week. It's also got the turmeric and the cacao along with the activated coconut charcoal, which gives it those antioxidant properties.
The Illuminating Pearl Mask. This one is everybody's favorite. Everybody should just get it. It's a hydrating, brightening treatment mask. It's great for all skin types. You really can't overdo it with this one. It has a crushed pearl powder in it, so it gives it this little bit of radiance and luminosity that it imparts on the skin. It also has licorice root and uva ursi, so the same two lightening and brightening ingredients that are in Citrus Stem Cell Serum.
It's got honey, which is a humectant to draw moisture to the skin. Am I forgetting anything? I feel like, it's kind of this creamy, jelly texture, so it feels really cool on the skin, so it's very nice in the morning when your skin is kind of tired and puffy, you can use it, as long as your under eye area isn't really sensitive, you can use it under the eyes too, which is nice in the morning and then our Coconut Honey Mask. That one, it's a balmy texture, it's very moisturizing, so good for very dry skin, or sensitive skin, it's a pretty simple formula.
And then our Purifying Mud Mask, I love this one. It's a dry powder as well, you can mix it just with water if you would like. I like to mix this one with honey. I specifically like to mix it with Manuka honey UMF 15, which you can get at the drugstore, not the drugstore, the health food store or Amazon or whatever.
But this is the mud mask. So obviously mud, it's going to be very purifying, detoxifying. If you just mix it with water, I would say this one is going to be best for oily skin. If you mix it with honey, I really feel like any skin type can use it because that honey acts as a humectant. Again, drawing moisture to the skin. So it's not going to dry out your skin at all. But I really like that one. So those are all the masks. That is everything. I think that's it. So questions about anything? Any products? Any skin concerns? Anything.
Customer: I have a quick question about the sunscreen product. So I know you guys years ago used to have, maybe it was a different product, but it had color in it. So this one's not that correct. It's different?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah. We reformulated it. So there's no tint in it.
Customer: No, that works for me. The tint didn't work for me. So I was hoping it was different.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, this one does not have a tint.
Customer: Cool. And then I guess I'm trying to get into a routine. I wouldn't say I'm the best at consistently doing the same thing daily. You guys recommend morning and night, correct? Like for everybody, washing?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, so, well, like I said, I really recommend customizing your routine to what works best for you. I am the esthetician who does like the least with my skin. Because I don't have time for it. I have two little kids and I work full time. I just don't have time. So, by the end of the day, sometimes I'm too tired to wash my face and I don't do it. But only if I have no makeup and no SPF on. If I have any makeup or SPF, I always will wash my face. And then in the morning, I kind of feel like it's personal preference in the morning as well.
I do personally really like to wash my face in the morning because I feel like it just makes me feel better and it makes my skin look better. But sometimes if I'm really in a hurry and I don't have time, maybe I'll splash my skin with water, or maybe I'll just mist my toning mist. I feel like at the very least, I mist my toning mist and I put on eye cream.
So I really think it's just kind of finding what works best for you and I don't think you necessarily have to have a six-step routine that you do morning and night to have good skin. Sometimes, like I said, I feel like at the very least you want to have a cleanser and a facial oil. You need to have that at the very least. Sometimes if I shower, I'll use my Kaolin Micro Exfoliant and that has some naturally occuring saponins in it, so I will just use that (I won’t use a cleanser too) and then I will just apply facial oil while my skin is still really damp and call it good! It really just depends on the person and your lifestyle and what you can make work. I think if you have time and you want to do six steps morning and night, I think that's great. And your skin is probably gonna look fantastic. But sometimes it just doesn't work for everybody. So I feel like whatever you can do is great, you know?
Customer: I have a couple questions. I'm really good at my routine for my cleansing morning and night, but when it comes to the exfoliating and the mask, I'm terrible. So one or the other, which one would you recommend to kind of baby step into it to start with an exfoliant or start with a mask?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Start with an exfoliant. I would say maybe either the Ayurvedic or the Kaolin because they are both really easy to incorporate.
Customer: And the other thing is your suntan lotion. You will only have an SPF of 20. I've had skin cancer, so how is that strong enough? Because I was told not to use anything below 50.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So actually, let me get, do you want to share your email address? And I could send you an article about this. I want to write a blog about this. Sometimes those very high SPF’s give you sort of a false sense of security. For example, an SPF 100 isn’t necessarily offering twice the protection of an SPF 50. Like I said, I think that our sunscreen is good for everyday, daily wear. You put it on in the morning, you use a good amount so that you're getting full coverage and then you’re working, you're running errands, whatever. I think that if you're out in the sun all day, then I definitely would recommend reapplying, especially if you've had that experience where you've had skin cancer before.
Customer: I missed about the honey. Tell me again about what kind of honey to mix with the mask.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh yeah, I mean that's just my personal thing. I like to use Manuka honey. And this is just from years ago when I struggled with acne. I use a UMF 15. It is just what somebody had told me to use. So I've always stuck with that.
Customer: Tell me that again, please.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: UMF 15. So like I've said, Manuka honey, any honey is a humectant. So it's going to draw moisture to the skin. Manuka honey also has other properties that are beneficial to the skin. And it only comes from New Zealand. So make sure that you get New Zealand Manuka honey.
Any other questions? No. All right. Okay, well, if you think of any other questions, you can always email us.
Customer: I’m new to this product line, so how do I go about ordering it?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh, you just order it through the website. And then if you have any trouble ordering, like I said, you could always email [email protected].
