Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Ok, so now we can jump into products and routines. The basic four step routine that we recommend is cleanse, tone, serum, and facial oil. I like to tell people, really, it's best to just kind of find what works best for your skin, find what works best for your lifestyle. You know, maybe you're somebody who has no routine currently, and so you don't want to jump into a really complex routine. Or maybe you're trying to keep things really simple and trying to just get your skin back to a state of balance. So basically the most simple routine that you would want to have would be at least a cleanser and a facial oil. Then you could build from there and add in other things as you go. But that's kind of like the most stripped down routine that you'd want to have.
Customer: Do you guys not have a lotion moisturizer? Is it just face oils?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: We currently only have oils. There is a lotion moisturizer that is in the works, but I don't know when that will be released. So as of right now, all of our facial moisturizers are oils. We love oils because oils are more pure. They don't require any fillers or any waxes to be used. Your skin's natural form of moisture is oil, so oils are absorbed really easily by the skin. So that's kind of why we've chosen oils. And yes, if you're used to like a lotion or something, it can be a switch. It can take a little bit of getting used to. I'm a huge fan of oils though. But I used to be on the complete opposite end of the spectrum and be like, no oil can touch my face ever.
Customer: I mean, your face doesn't look oily, right? So obviously you're using the products.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, I mean I've done nothing with myself this morning, but I do feel like even when I use it, I don't feel like my skin looks or feels oily.
But that's kind of the basic routine. And so we're going to start with cleansing and cleansers, because whether your routine is two steps or 10 steps, you're going to start with cleansing. And so cleansing is going to just remove makeup and impurities from the skin. A thorough cleanse will help prep your skin so that it can better absorb your treatment products.
All of our cleansers are pH balanced. Which is important. Your skin's pH is a 4. 5 to a 5. 5 and all of our cleansers are a 5. 5 to a 5. 6 which is actually printed on our packaging. But a pH balanced cleanser is just going to ensure that you're not stripping your skin, you're not drying out your skin, you're not disrupting your skin's acid mantle, your skin's protective barrier. So I always mention that because that's important. We also don't use any harsh sulfates or surfactants in our cleansers. The surfactant that we use is a safe, low foaming option. It's a sodium lauryl glucose carboxylate, which sounds very fancy, but it's really just saponified oils and plant starches and sugars. So it has an excellent cleansing profile while being completely safe. And we have four cleansers in the line. They are the Aloe Herb, Citrus Mint, the Phytonutrient and the Restorative Cleansing Oil. And before I jump into those products, we do have a couple of different collections that I want to mention. So within our line, we have a few different collections.
The two main collections that we have are the Signature Collection. So all of the Signature Collection products have the tan labeling and then the Wild Alchemy Collection. All of the Wild Alchemy Collection products have the black and gold labeling. And what's the difference? The Signature Collection, a lot of these products are our best selling products. A lot of them have been around since we got started.
The Wild Alchemy Collection, this is our luxury line. So the products in this collection contain higher levels of activated ingredients. They also contain more exotic ingredients. And then a lot of times the crafting process, the way that they're made is a little bit more laborious as well.
We do have a few other collections. Those are the two main ones. I will just also quickly mention the Essentials Collection. This collection is just two products. It's the Renew Cream Cleanser and the Radiate Facial Oil. These two products are offered at a lower price point than any of our other products. And the reason for that is just that they don't contain our herb infusions. So the way that they're made is just more simple. They're simple formulas but they're still great products and they can be great for somebody who is just getting started on a routine or for more sensitive skin types. I know Grace and I both really like the Radiate oil. So I'll mention those three collections.
But back to cleansers the first cleanser in our Signature Collection is the Aloe Herb Cleanser. I like to tell people if you're feeling confused or overwhelmed or you're not sure where to start. This cleanser can be a good place to start. Because you can't go wrong. It's a cream cleanser, a nourishing cream cleanser. It's an aloe vera base, of course, aloe is rich in vitamins and minerals and phytonutrients and enzymes that are really great for skin. And then that one's got calendula in it, so it's really soothing as well. It's got some lemon essential oil to help to brighten and purify. And then some coconut oil too, which gives it that creamy texture. So that would probably be a good choice for anyone in this group.
Then the Phytonutrient Cleanser. This one is in our Wild Alchemy Collection. I'm not going to touch on the Citrus Mint because I don't think anybody in this group needs it. The Phytonutrient Cleanser in the Wild Alchemy Collection, this is our other cream cleanser. So it's a cream cleanser the way that the Aloe Herb is. It's a little bit of a fattier texture, a little bit thicker, richer. This cleanser is great for brightening. So I know that you guys, this group is concerned with brightening too. This one has apple extract in it. So that apple extract is rich in vitamin C and malic acid to help brighten the skin. This one also has some coconut oil in there. It's got acai to give it an antioxidant property. This one's got our Signature Serum Blend in it. And with any of the cleansers, but especially this one, I like to encourage people to really just take their time with their cleanse, do a thorough cleanse, let it kind of be on the skin for a minute. I just say, especially this one, because you've got all those beautiful activated ingredients like that apple extract and the serum blend, and you kind of want to let them be on the skin for a minute before you just rinse it down the drain.
And then lastly, I will mention the Restorative Cleansing Oil. So this one is a little bit different. The other two you use just like a regular cleanser. So you wet your face, you pump your cleanser into the palm of your hands, you massage it in, and then you rinse clean and pat dry. This one is a cleansing oil.
Customer: Can I ask a question, Emily? What was the cleanser you mentioned that helps with brightening the look of skin?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: It's the Phytonutrient Cleanser.
Customer: Oh, fine. Okay. And just if I may, one question. Does it also remove eye makeup? Can we just use one cleanser instead of having one for the eyes and another one for the face? Does it remove makeup, the cleanser?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: For makeup removal, I usually recommend the Restorative Cleansing Oil. You can use it to remove mascara, waterproof mascara, heavy makeup, sunscreen, all that stuff.
The Aloe Herb Cleanser, I do tell people usually it's fine to use around the eyes to remove makeup. I don't usually recommend using the Phytonutrient Cleanser over the eyes. I've done it myself and it can feel a little irritating.
Customer:Do you have a special product just to remove makeup or we can use the restore one?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:The Restorative Cleansing Oil is a great option for removing makeup. We don't have anything labeled as just a makeup remover.
Customer: the Aloe Herb Cleanser will remove makeup. Yeah, because I've been using it for a long time.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So the Restorative Cleansing Oil, this one, like I was saying, it's an oil, so you apply it to dry skin. So you use dry hands, dry face and massage it in. And then you can just rinse it clean. That can be it. Or you can use it as the first step in a double cleanse routine. And if you want to do that, you should just rinse it clean and then follow it with whatever cleanser you like as your second cleanser. So Aloe Herb, or Phytonutrient, whatever. And this one, I actually love this product. It's great for all skin types. So for dry and mature skin, it feels very nourishing. It actually leaves a little bit of an oil on the skin. Some people like that. Some people don't like that. If you don't like it, then remove it with a washcloth or follow it with a second cleanser or just don't use it.
It's also good for oilier skin types and congestion prone skin types because like attracts like. It could also be good for sensitive skin. So this one, it's a jojoba oil base. Jojoba very closely resembles the texture of your skin's natural sebum. It also has manuka oil in it. I'm obsessed with manuka and with jojoba, so I love this. Manuka oil is very deep cleansing and calming to the skin. And then it's got some tea tree oil in it, which is purifying and some castor oil as well. So I really love this one.
Okay. Any questions about the cleansers? Those three?
Okay, so those are the cleansers. So that's where you would start. And then after you cleanse, you would pat your skin dry, and then you would mist your toning mist over your face and neck. And we have three different toning mists in our line. They are the Neroli Toning Mist, the Rosemary Toning Mist and the Botanical Hydration Mist With Immortelle. We'll just talk about the Neroli and the Botanical today. So the Neroli Toning Mist. This is our most popular. And toning mists in general are going to just help to complete the cleansing process. They're going to offer a dose of hydration. They're going to offer skin supporting nutrients. So that's kind of the purpose of a toner. The Neroli Toning Mist. It's a very simple formula. It's the aloe vera juice base, and then it's got the neroli in it. And then it's got some aspen bark extract, which acts as a natural preservative and is also a natural source of salicins. So again, a very simple formula. The Neroli is derived from fresh orange blossoms, so it has a really lovely scent. I think that's part of why this product is so popular. It's a very popular one. People love it. So this one's great for really all skin types, normal, dry, a little bit of sensitivity.
The Botanical Hydration Mist With Immortelle. This one is in our Wild Alchemy Collection. This one's a little bit different. So it's a hydrosol base. The other two toning mists we have are an aloe vera juice base. The hydrosol is like this watery runoff that you get when you create an essential oil through a steam distillation. And it has this really kind of soft texture to it. It gives it like maybe a little bit more of a moisturizing quality. But this one is very popular amongst the team. This is the team favorite. Aside from me, I use the Rosemary Mist, but I'm a breakout girly. But this one is especially good for sensitive skin types. It has a blend of four different types of chamomile in it. This one's also got the immortelle, of course, which is a potent antioxidant. This one has frankincense in it, so known to tone, tighten, and rejuvenate the skin. So this one also has a little bit more, I would say, like kind of anti-aging properties to it.
Customer: So I do have that. And I do like it. And I just realized that it's frankincense that I'm smelling when I use it, because I knew that smell, but I just couldn't pinpoint it. But honestly, I feel like that has been what's calming my skin down. Which makes sense now that you list all the ingredients. You know, I got that because my face was getting so red and blotchy from the other products. And so it's actually something I'm keeping. I didn't throw that one away.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:Oh, good. I'm glad you didn't throw it away!
Customer: It works, I mean. Essentially I'm having an allergic reaction on my face and that would really help make it feel better.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:Yeah, that's a great one. So those are the two toning mists that would probably be best for the group. And so like I said, after you cleanse your face, you just pat dry a little bit, and mist your toning mist.
Any toning mist questions? They're kind of straightforward.
So after your toning mist, then the next step in your routine would be your serum. I feel like serums and oils are where things get a little bit confusing because we have so many of them. But hopefully we can make it not super confusing. Okay. So serums in general are excellent hydrators. There's the difference between dehydrated skin, which is skin that is lacking water and dry skin, which is skin that is lacking oil. Most people have a little bit of both, a little bit of dehydration, a little bit of dryness. And so that's why we recommend using a combination of hydrating products and moisturizing products.
So your hydrators are your toning mists. and your serum. Your moisturizer is your facial oil. So serums in general are excellent hydrators. They usually contain high levels, high concentrations of activated ingredients. So they allow you to really customize your routine to kind of target and treat whatever your skin specific concerns are. They also are made up of a smaller molecule than a facial oil, so they're able to penetrate more deeply to get those activated ingredients deeper into the skin. The Anti-Aging Serum is the first one we'll talk about. This is in our Signature Collection. It's our best selling serum. People love this one. I like to refer to it as an overall dose of daily skin nutrition. It's great for all skin types. It's very antioxidant rich. It's got buddleia extract. It's got life everlasting flowers. This one has got some rose in it. So soothing as well. And then hyaluronic acid. We use a non GMO vegetable sourced hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that binds water to the skin. Hyaluronic in particular holds 1, 000 times its weight in water, so it's considered a super hydrator. So really deeply hydrating the skin is going to have kind of a plumping effect to really minimize the appearance of fine lines, whereas if your skin is dry and dehydrated, then It's going to emphasize the appearance of fine lines.
But this one, like I said, is very popular. This is kind of similar to the Aloe Herb Cleanser in that if you're unsure of what to choose, you probably can't go wrong with the Anti-Aging Serum.
The Citrus Stem Cell Serum, I don't have that one on my desk actually, but the Citrus Stem Cell, also in the Signature Collection, that one is good for all skin types. It's especially good for brightening, so that could be an option for some of you. This one, it's good for targeted brightening, so if you have maybe just a dark spot or two that you're working to brighten the look of, this can be a good choice. And there's kind of two components to this serum because there are the citrus derived stem cells. So we use plant derived stem cells in a lot of our products. Stem cells are really popular, a popular thing to use in skin care products but a lot of times they can be derived from animals or even humans and questionable places where you might not want them to be derived from. So we use all plant derived stem cells. In this serum, specifically citrus derived stem cells. And these stem cells provide the skin with proteins and peptides and amino acids and things that are going to really help to strengthen the skin to help to increase resilience. So that's kind of one component of this serum. And then on the other end, you have the brightening aspect. So the brightening trio in this is the Amla berry, which is very rich in vitamin C. And then you've also got licorice root and uva ursi. So both of those are lightening and brightening ingredients. Licorice root a lot of times is used in natural products as an alternative to like hydroquinone, which is a really yucky ingredient. But that is the Citrus Stem Cell.
And then the last one in the Signature Collection is the Probiotic Serum with Tremella. The probiotic serum, this one is great for sensitive skin. It's great for skin that is sort of out of balance. It's got the tremella mushroom extract in it. So tremella acts very similar to hyaluronic acid, so deeply hydrating the skin. That one has astaxanthin, which is a really powerful antioxidant. It's got some olive leaf extract and then the probiotic ferment. So that probiotic ferment is going to help to eliminate impurities on the surface of the skin. And it can also help to balance the skin's pH. That one is good for kind of out of balance skin. And then what else? That's all three in the Signature Collection.
And then in the Wild Alchemy Collection, we have a few as well. The Wild Fruit Serum that one is in the Wild Alchemy Collection. That one, I'd say, is kind of a very, all encompassing serum. I like to refer to it as our do it all serum. I love this one personally. It's hydrating, it's brightening, it's got anti-aging properties. It's good for all skin types. So that one has copper infused water in it. It's got the Madonna Lily plant cells. It's got 1. 5, about 1. 5 million active plant stem cells in each bottle. So it's a really dense infusion of those stem cells. This one has knotweed extract, which is really rich in resveratrol. It also has apple extract. So it's got the same apple extract that's in the Phytonutrient Cleanser. So rich in vitamin C and malic acid. And then it's got the Kakadu Plum, which is another really potent source of vitamin C. Kakadu plum also has phenolic acid in it, and phenolic acid behaves on the skin similar to an alpha hydroxy acid. So alpha hydroxy acids, they kind of dissolve the, like the glue that holds the top layer of skin cells. So they have that sort of exfoliating effect to help with texture and tone. So that's the Wild Fruit Serum. Um, and then two more. I know it's a lot. The CBD serum. Sometimes I do this one. Sometimes I don't just because I try not to overwhelm people, but I am going to touch on it because this could be another good option since sensitive skin was mentioned as a concern in this group. Either the probiotic treatment. Or the CBD or a combination of the two using like using the probiotic in the morning and the CBD at night. So the Activated CBD Serum, this one is sold on the site in its own little kind of boutique which is just because of the legality of selling a CBD product. But when we created this product, we wanted to of course source the best. So we partnered with Ojai Energetics. They are really a leader and a pioneer in the CBD space. This one, it's good for all skin types, but it's especially great for sensitive skin or reactive skin. It's kind of hard to say exactly what CBD does for your skin because it kind of works with your body's natural endocannabinoid system to go where it's needed to go and do what it's needed to do, but it is very soothing to the skin. This one, it's very hydrating as well. It's got a little bit of a thicker, richer texture than the other serums. The other ones are a little bit more aqueous. So this one's a little bit richer, so very hydrating. This one's got a bunch of potent antioxidants in there, the astaxanthin, the superoxide dismutase, it's also got mangosteen oil and black cumin seed oil and I always let Grace talk about this product, because this is her other holy grail product.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Oh yes, I love this serum, but I have extremely sensitive and super dry skin, like, even in the summer months I have super dry skin. And then I also get red really easily, and I have food sensitivities, which then makes my skin red. So there's usually just, like, a lot going on at all times. Which is super fun, ha. But I love the Activated CBD Serum because of the soothing properties it has and like Emily said, it kind of moves where it's supposed to go, which is lovely for someone like me who has more than one thing going on at once. And you can kind of see an immediate effect when you apply it, at least for me the redness goes down pretty much immediately. And then the hydration aspect of itis extremely helpful. Especially when layering it with a facial oil. It's just amazing. I had such a hard time before I started with Annmarie finding truly any skin care that worked because of how much was going on with my skin. And I was also not against oils. I just had never used facial oil. So I was like, Okay, I'll give it a try. And it turned out to be amazing. So I highly recommend the CBD serum if you have temporary redness or if you have sensitive skin or anything that just needs a little extra care.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:Okay. And then the last serum is the Activated Night Serum. This one is also in our Wild Alchemy Collection. And this one is our most recent serum launch. This one, it contains our bioactive A complex. So that is our version of/our alternative to a retinol. So retinoids are kind of the gold standard in anti-aging but they're not really great for your health. They can be harmful to reproductive health. Even for skin health, if you're using them for an extended period of time, they're going to start to thin your skin and you really don't want to thin the skin. We want to have healthy, resilient skin. We want to support our skin barrier as we age. So that's why we created this product and used that ingredient.
The bioactive A complex is a completely safe ingredient. It's derived from algae. It's a Made Safe approved ingredient. And this one really can be used by all skin types. I mean, even if you're pretty sensitive, I know Grace does use this but she uses it I think every other night. But the bioactive A complex is going to have a similar effect on the skin as a retinol, having that resurfacing, renewing effect so it can be really helpful for signs of aging. This one, again, is very hydrating as well, so great for dehydrated skin. It also has that thicker texture, similar to the CBD serum. And it's a nice combination because we've paired that active bioactive A complex with some really soothing, calming ingredients like the lavender and the blue chamomile. This one, you do want to make sure that you are just using it at night and that you are using it with an SPF during the day because it can make you more sensitive to the sun. But that is the Activated Night Serum. So I won't talk about elixirs quite yet. Do we have serum questions? Because I know there's a lot of serums.
Customer: Yeah. I wanted to ask you, Emily. When we put the toning mist on, do we have to wait till it dries up before we put the serum or is it good that it's still moist and then you apply the serum? Or do you have to wait till your skin dries before the serum is applied?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Great question. So it's really personal preference. I believe on our packaging it says, mist your toner, let it dry, then apply your serum. I actually don't like to do that. I always suggest that people apply their serum when their skin is slightly damp from the toner. Because it's going to help it to absorb better into the skin so that it doesn't ever feel like it's just kind of sitting on the skin. So I always recommend applying when your skin is still damp.
Customer: Okay. And if I may, another question with the serum, is it good to alternate? Or should we, like let's say we stick to one serum, I always heard that after a year or two, the products, you kind of should kind of change and switch it. Is that a myth or is it true? They always say, people that use the same product for two, three years, your skin gets so used to it, you should kind of alternate with another one and then go back to it. Is that correct or not?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:Oh, I don’t know that I really buy that. I think that if there is a product that you use and you really love and it works well for you. I think it's fine to continue using it even for years. I think that if you want to switch it up too, I think that's totally fine. I know a lot of people, because we do have several serums, want to use different ones. We don't really recommend mixing the serums together, but you can alternate. You could use like, I don't know, maybe you want to use probiotic in the morning and CBD at night, or maybe you want to use wild fruit in the morning, and activated night serum at night. So you can alternate that way to use more than one.
Customer: Okay. And the toner and the serum, if I'm not mistaken, should be used both morning and night, correct?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:Yeah. I mean, so the general routine, you would do morning and evening. Like I said, I think it's really good to do what works best for you. But the general routine, you would do those four steps every morning and evening.
Customer:Okay. Perfect. Thanks.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah. Of course. Good questions. Any other questions?
Alright. So after you apply your serum, then you would use your facial oil. So again, we have several different facial oils and like we already talked about all of our facial moisturizers, as of now, are oils. We have our Herbal Facial Oils in the Signature Collection.
I usually start with those. So, I don't go into these too deep because they are sort of self explanatory because they are named for the skin type that they are designed for. All three of the Herbal Facial Oils are a grapeseed oil base which is a light textured skin balancing oil. We have the Herbal Facial Oil for Normal and Combination Skin. This one, like I said, it's a skin balancing oil. It's got some goji in there. I think it's got some tamanu in there, echinacea. So just a balancing facial oil.
The Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin. This is a purifying facial oil. So this one has some neem in it, which is detoxifying. It has black cumin seed. I don't know that anybody really would need this in this group. Although I do know someone mentioned being new to using facial oil. So if you were using facial oil and felt like it felt heavy or something to you, this would probably be like the lightest option.
Customer: Which one is that?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: That's Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin.
Then the Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive Skin. That one has no added essential oils. It's got a bunch of omega rich oils. It's got camellia seed and sacha inchi oil. I believe that one contains squalane as well. But those are the Herbal Facial Oils and then the Anti-Aging Facial Oil. That's the other one in the Signature Collection. So this one is really good for dry and mature skin. This is a very popular one. One of our best selling products always. This one is the jojoba oil base. It's got a bunch of different seed oils in it. So it's got carrot seed oil, broccoli seed oil, chia seed oil. Chia, for example, is rich in vitamin B and zinc. This one also has goji. It's got plantago in it. So a really dense herb infusion in this one. And again, very popular, very nourishing, restorative facial oil for dry and mature skin.
And then in the Wild Alchemy Collection, we have the Rejuvenating Facial Oil. This one, this is our most potent, our most active facial oil. This one, it's great for all skin types except for very sensitive skin. This one, it's made a little bit differently. So the other facial oils, they have more of the herbs and the CO2 extracts. Like, I think there's maybe 20 herbs or something like that in the herb infusion in the Anti-Aging Facial Oil. This one has just one herb. It's the butterfly pea flower. And then there also are fewer of the seed oils and the CO2 extracts in this one than are in the other facial oils. And the reason for that is that by including fewer of them, we were able to include them at higher concentrations, at higher percentages. So it makes it more active. It makes it more potent. So that's kind of why we chose to do that with this one. But like I said, it's got the butterfly pea flower in it. It's got some blue tansy in there. This one has brightening baobab oil. It's got antioxidant marula oil. This one has mongongo oil, which is very softening to the skin. I love this one.
I always laugh because my two favorite facial oils are the Rejuvenating Facial Oil and the Radiate Facial Oil, which are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. But those are my favorites. So that's the Rejuvenating. So those are all of the facial oils. Questions about facial oils?
Customer: After the serum Emily, we can just apply the facial oil, right? Do we need to rub the skin? Can we rub the skin, like, with a massage roller? Am I okay to use that with the facial oil?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, absolutely. The facial oils are great if you're doing jade rolling or gua sha or anything like that, I tend to really overuse my facial oil because I really like to massage it in.
Customer: And Emily, with both the serum and oil, can we apply it around the eyes or better not? Can I massage it like over my eyelid or you know, the little fine lines on my, the side of my eye or better not with the oil?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So the general recommendation with the facial serums and facial oils is to keep it outside the orbital bone. I feel like sometimes with the oil, I don't always follow that rule. And in general, it's okay for me. I feel like it kind of just depends on how sensitive you are in that area. We do of course have two eye products, the Anti-Aging Eye Cream and the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum. So these are designed specifically for the eye area. Even with those, the recommendation is to apply on the orbital bone. I tend to, like the Anti-Aging Eye Cream, sometimes I will put that on my lid a bit. So again, I think it just kind of depends on how sensitive you are in your eye area. But we can talk about eye products really quickly since we are on them now. We have the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum and the Anti-Aging Eye Cream.
Customer: Emily, can I just ask you one last question about facial oil please?
When you go to bed at night, does it stick on your pillow? Or does it just absorb in your skin? Do we have to worry about that? And number two, can I just put on my makeup in the morning overtop of the oil, we're always in a rush. Will it stick on my brushes?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So as far as getting on your pillowcase, I have not had that issue ever. And like I said, I do tend to use quite a bit of oil, but I have heard in these consults, other customers say that it's gotten on their pillowcase. And as far as a silk pillowcase, I don't use a silk pillowcase so I am not sure about that. But like I said, I have not had that issue.
And then as far as makeup, you should be able to use it for a base with makeup. We actually just had a live makeup shopping event recently and our operations associate applies her facial oil and then she uses a dry loose mineral powder foundation and applies it over top and has no issue. I tend to not wear makeup and if I do it’s more of a cream than a powder. But if you're using it during the day and you're going to apply makeup, I would mist with your toner. I would not use too much oil. You probably could use one pump, and then apply it, give it a second to absorb into the skin and then apply your makeup.
Customer: Very good.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Okay, cool. So the eye products, we've got the two, the Anti-Aging Eye Cream and the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum. Both are great. I tend to recommend, if you're going to choose one or the other, I usually go with the eye cream. It just feels more nourishing and I always feel very dry in my eye area. It's a little bit more all encompassing, I would say.
The Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum is great as well. It's more of a true serum, obviously. So you can see here the thinner consistency. It’s that smaller molecule, getting those activated ingredients deep into the skin. So for people that their eye area is their main concern maybe you want to use both together. These actually can be great too, I know somebody had mentioned fine lines around the mouth, you can even use these products around the mouth area too. If you wanted to use them together, you would layer them. So you would layer the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum underneath the Anti-Aging Eye Cream. With the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum, you want to make sure that you're just using a very tiny bit. You really do not need a lot of this one. If you overuse it, I feel like it doesn't apply nicely. Another way you could use both would be to use the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum in the morning and the Anti-Aging Eye Cream at night. I know a couple of the girls on our team do that. The Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum, this one, has pineapple ceramides. It got sake peptides in there. The sake peptides can help to kind of re-texturize the under eye area to lighten and brighten the look.
The Anti-Aging Eye Cream, this one has cucumber, which is of course cooling, good for puffiness, rich in silica. It has Damas rose plant cells. I think this one has CoQ10 as well. But those are the two eye products that we have. And like I said, even these, we do recommend keeping them on the orbital bone.
Sometimes, like I said, I will kind of cheat and put the eye cream a little bit on my lid as well. So that's just kind of gauging how your skin reacts.
Okay, so that is pretty much your basic routine. Any other questions about basic routine?
Customer: Yeah, I love exfoliants, but I’m not sure how often to use them.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:Well, it does kind of depend on the exfoliant that you are using. So we have three different ones. Exfoliation is going to just help with improving skin's texture and tone. If you don’t exfoliate you get that kind of build up on the skin and then your products aren't able to absorb the way that they should.
So we have the Ayurvedic Facial Scrub, the Kaolin Micro Exfoliant and the Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant. All of them are great. I like all of them, honestly. The Ayurvedic Facial Scrub, this one right here, this is a dry, powdered exfoliant. It is very, very gentle. So even very sensitive skin types can use this one. The way that you use it is you just shake a little bit of the powder into the palm of your hand. And then you can mix a little bit of water to create a paste, massage it into the skin, and rinse. You also can mix this directly in with your cleanser. It mixes really nicely with the Aloe Herb Cleanser or the Phytonutrient Cleanser. It's so gentle that most people can use this every day if you want to, say you're mixing it into your cleanser and you just really like the feel of it. It should be fine for most people to use this one every day because it's so gentle.
The Kaolin Micro Exfoliant, this is our other physical exfoliant. So both of these, the Kaolin and the Ayurvedic are physical exfoliants. The fenugreek is the exfoliating property in the Ayurvedic. They both have that scrubby, gritty texture, so they're physically polishing the skin. The Kaolin is a little bit richer. It's a cream exfoliant. It's a kaolin clay base, so purifying, detoxifying, and mineral rich. It's got lavender essential oil, so that's the scent profile. And then of course soothing and calming as well. This one, most people would use this like two or three times a week. You wouldn't really want to use this one every day. That would probably be a little bit too much. And if you want this one to be a little bit more gentle, you could also mix it with a cleanser. It mixes really nicely with the Aloe Herb Cleanser because then it smells like lemon-lavender, which is so lovely. So that is the kaolin. This one has crushed bamboo powder. That's the exfoliating property in this one. I don't know if I said that or not but that one is very popular as well.
And then the last one we have is the Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant. This one is in the Wild Alchemy Collection. This one is a little bit different. It's a chemical exfoliant. So chemical in the way that it works on the skin, not that it contains a bunch of chemicals. It's got a honey derived lactic acid in it. Lactic acid is a very mild alpha hydroxy acid. So this one, it's a smooth gel texture. There's no grit to it. You use it like you would a mask. You apply it to clean skin. You leave it on. To start, most people leave it on for just 2 or 3 minutes. You can work your way up to leaving it on for 10 minutes. It really just depends on your skin and how sensitive you are. I would not say that I am somebody with sensitive skin, but when I put this on, I can feel it for sure. But I have had people on the call too who say they've used it and felt nothing. So it really just depends on your skin. But this one is to be used in the evening and with an SPF during the day, because it also can make you more sensitive to the sun. It's got that lactic acid, it's got cucumber in it which is cooling, of course and rich in silica, it's got blue tansy. So again, kind of that nice balance with the activated lactic acid, and then the soothing, calming ingredients as well in this one. This one can be a great choice for brightening the look of dark spots and for signs of aging. But I know some people mentioned brightening as a goal, so this product is a great choice for that.
Customer: And this one would you use it two, three times a week also, Emily?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:This one, most people would only use this once a week.
Customer: Okay. Perfect.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:You can play around with it. Maybe you could use it twice a week, depending on your skin, but usually for most people, once a week is good enough.
Customer: Okay. Great. Thanks.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:Okay. So those are the exfoliants. That's almost it. We still have masks. We have boosting elixirs and then the Sun Love. Let me talk about Sun Love really quickly. So the Sun Love is our everyday sheer sunscreen. It's an SPF 20. It's a non nano zinc oxide. It's a broad spectrum. So protecting against UVA and UVB. It's got pumpkin seed oil. It's got buriti fruit oil. So still very nourishing to the skin. And that one can be used over top of a facial oil. You can also use it on its own as your daytime moisturizer. That's just personal preference. But that is the sunscreen. And so with the Activated Night Serum or with the Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant, you really want to make sure that you're using your Sun Love during the day.
Okay. How about masks and boosting elixirs? Do you guys want me to cover masks and boosting elixirs or are you feeling like it's too much? You're done.
Customer: Emily, just one question, for both the mask and the boosters, these are things that we don't use every day? Am I correct? Would that be like once or twice a week?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:So the Concentrated Boosting Elixirs, these you can use every day. They come in the set of three. They are made to be mixed. You never apply these directly to your skin. You mix them either with your serum or if for some reason you're not using a serum, you can mix them with your facial oil. You mix one to three drops of the elixir. So they can be used every day because you are mixing them with your serum or your oil.
Customer: Okay. And the masks, because I'm used to masks, you can just do them once or twice a week, correct?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:Yeah, most of the time people mask a couple times a week, once a week, kind of whatever you can do. It depends on the mask too, like our Illuminating Pearl Mask is a very popular one and you really can't overdo it with that one. If you wanted to use this every day, you could.
Customer: Ok. And I'd like to know the lifespan of your products. Is it a year? Is it six months?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: All of our products have the expiration date printed on the bottom of the product. Usually, in general, I'd say it's like two years out, but you can always find it printed on the product. And we do recommend just storing in a cool, dry place.
Any other questions?
Customer: No, you're very good. I learned a lot. That was excellent. It was fun too. You had a very good talk. You weren't boring at all.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Thank you! Thank you so much for hanging out with us and spending an hour and a half listening to me talk about skin care. I hope you all have a great weekend.
