Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So the basic four step routine that we recommend for pretty much everyone that you can do morning and evening consists of cleansing, toning using a serum and a facial oil or a moisturizer.
So that's the basic routine that we recommend. I do always like to tell people that while this is kind of the general standard routine that we recommend. It's best to just really find something that works for you, for your skin, and for your lifestyle. So maybe you are completely new to skin care and you currently have no routine, or you just wash your face with bar soap or something. You're probably not going to jump into a six step routine that takes 30 minutes morning and evening and be really consistent with it. So in that case, I always tell people to just start simple and then you can kind of build from there. I would say like the most simple routine that you want to have you want to at least have a cleanser and a moisturizer.
So a cleanser and a facial oil, you kind of need those two products at least to start. And then, like I said, you can build from there and just kind of find what works for you. But we will start with cleansing because whether your routine has 10 steps in it, or if it has two steps in it, you're going to start with cleansing.
And cleansing is just the process of removing makeup and impurities from the skin. A thorough cleanse will help to prep the skin so that it can better absorb the treatment products that you apply after like your toners, serums, etc. All of our cleansers are pH balanced. Your skin's pH is between a 4.5 and a 5. 5 and all of our cleansers pH is between 5.5 and 5.6. So that is just going to ensure that you're not stripping your skin. You're not drying out your skin. You're not disrupting your skin's natural protective barrier, your acid mantle. Also we don't use any harsh surfactants like lauryl sulfates in our cleansers.
A lot of conventional cleansers that tend to be more alkaline use harsh sulfates that have high foaming properties. We use a safe low foaming surfactant for our cleansers. It's a sodium lauryl glucose carboxylate which sounds very fancy, but it's really just saponified oils, plant starches, and sugars.
And we have four different cleansers in our line: the Aloe Herb Cleanser, the Citrus Mint Cleanser, the Restorative Cleansing Oil, and the Phytonutrient Cleanser. And before we get started with cleansers, within our line we have a few different collections. The two main collections that we have that we'll focus on today are the Signature Collection, so our Signature Collection products are all of the products with the tan labeling. These products are a lot of our best selling products. A lot of these products have been around since we got started. The other collection that we'll talk about is our Wild Alchemy Collection.
This collection, all these products have the black and gold labeling. The Wild Alchemy Collection, this is our luxury line. And what makes it our luxury line is just that the products in this collection contain higher levels of activated ingredients. They contain more exotic ingredients. And a lot of times the crafting process, the way that these products are made is just a little bit more laborious.
So we will start with the Aloe Herb Cleanser. That one is in our Signature Collection. The Aloe Herb Cleanser is our best selling cleanser. If you have ever gotten one of our starter kits or trial kits, you've probably tried that one. It's great for all skin types. It's an aloe vera based cleanser.
It's a creamy cleanser. I like to tell people if they're kind of feeling overwhelmed and they're not really sure where to start, this can be a good one to start with because you just can't really go wrong. It's good for any skin type. So like I said, aloe vera base. Aloe is rich in vitamins and minerals.
It's rich in phytonutrients and enzymes. Aloe also contains some naturally occurring saponins that act as mild cleansing agents on the skin. It's got coconut oil, like I said, which gives it its creamy texture. This one's got some calendula which is really soothing to the skin. So good for minimizing the look of temporary redness in the skin.
And then this one also has some lemon essential oil. Lemon's going to be purifying and brightening to the skin. It also gives it a really nice scent. I feel like that's part of why it's so popular is because people love the way it smells. Grace says she always wants to have it in a candle.
So maybe someday we'll come out with that. The next one in our Signature Collection is the Citrus Mint Cleanser. This one again is an aloe vera base. It's a purifying gel cleanser. So it just contains more purifying herbs. It's got a witch hazel distillate in it to tone and balance.. It has neem, which helps to detoxify and is rich in vitamin E.
I believe this one has some rosemary in it too. So again, just more purifying. So that one's going to be more for normal, combination, and oily skin types. And then in our Wild Alchemy Collection, we have the Phytonutrient Cleanser and the Restorative Cleansing Oil. The Restorative Cleansing Oil, this is as the name suggests, an oil cleanser.
The way you want to use this one you apply it to dry skin, so dry hands, dry face. Just pump it into the palm of your hands, mix it, and then massage it in. You can use this on its own. So after you massage, you can just rinse it, and that can be it. You can use it as the first step in a double cleanse routine.
If you want to do that, you would massage it in, rinse it off and then follow it with a second cleanser, whichever one you like. This is good for all skin types. So, for dry and mature skin, it feels very nourishing. If you use it on its own and you just rinse to remove it does leave like a little bit of an oil on the skin but it's also really great for people that are maybe prone to some congestion. I’m very congestion prone and I love this product. Especially if you're using it for congestion, I always recommend really focusing your massage on the areas of concern. So a lot of times like around the nose or down around the chin and mouth area just kind of take your time and massage it in there. So it works well for oilier skin too because like attracts like. So the oil is going to help to kind of break down excess oil in the skin. And this one, it's a jojoba oil base.
So jojoba oil is. My favorite oil. It very closely resembles the texture of your skin's natural sebum. This one also has castor oil in it. It's got tea tree oil in it. So that's going to be more purifying. It's got manuka oil in it. I am manuka obsessed. Manuka is going to be calming and deep cleansing to the skin.
So I love this one. Sometimes people like to remove this one with a warm washcloth or a warm towel. If you don't like that bit of oil that it leaves on the skin, removing it with a towel or a washcloth can be helpful. So that is the Restorative Cleansing Oil.
And then the last one we have is the Phytonutrient Cleanser. So this one is also in our Wild Alchemy Collection. This is my other favorite. This one I would say is our most rich, most luxurious cleanser. It's a creamy cleanser too, the way that the aloe herb cleanser is.
They both have coconut oil in them. But this one has mango seed butter in it. So it gives it almost a fatty texture. This one also has apple extract. So the apple extract that we use is going to be rich in vitamin C and malic acid. So it's great for brightening the look of skin. So if dark spots are a concern for you, this is a great choice.
It's also got our signature serum blend in it. It's got some acai for some antioxidant properties. But this one especially, really with any cleanser, I always kind of encourage people to really take their time as they cleanse, massage it in instead of just like quickly putting it on your skin and rinsing it away.
But especially for this one, just because it does have so many of those beautiful activated ingredients, you want to let them just be on the skin for a minute before removing, you know? So those are cleansers and cleansing. Any questions about cleansers or cleansing or anything else?
Customer: What about the Renew Cleanser?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Okay, so I don't always talk about the Renew Cleanser because I just try not to overwhelm people with all the collections and things. So like I said, our two main collections are the Signature Collection and the Wild Alchemy Collection. We also have our Essentials Collection.
The Essentials Collection is just two products. It's the Renew Cream Cleanser and the Radiate Facial Oil. These two products are offered at a lower price point than any of our other products. And the reason for that is just because they don't contain our herb infusions. So the crafting process is more simple.
They're just really simple products. They're simple formulas. But they're still great. I really love the Radiate Oil and I know that Grace loves that one too. So yeah, they're still great formulas. They can be really great for people who, like, maybe are just getting introduced to a skin care routine.
They can be good if you tend to be more sensitive, since they are more simple formulas. They can be good too for maybe like a teen who's just getting started with skin care or something like that. But I would say the Renew Cleanser is still great. It's similar to the Aloe Herb in that it’s more of a creamy cleanser and it can be used for all skin types. It doesn't have all the herb infusions, like the calendula and all that stuff in it.
Anything else?
Customer: What about the Restorative Oil by itself for dry skin as the Aloe Vera cleanser can dry my skin.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yes, you absolutely can use the Restorative Cleansing Oil on its own for dry skin. So if you're using it on its own, like I said, you would just apply it to dry skin, dry hands, dry face, massage it in, and then just rinse it clean.
If you want to remove it with a warm washcloth or something, you can.
Any other cleanser questions?
All right, so next is toners. After you cleanse and aside from the, the cleansing oil, you would of course dampen your face, massage your cleanser in, and then rinse clean. So after you cleanse, you would pat your skin dry, and then mist your face with your toning mist over your face and neck. Toning just helps to complete the cleansing process. It's going to offer a dose of hydration and skin supporting nutrients. Depending on the toner that you choose, it can help to minimize the appearance of enlarged pores. Traditionally, toners were kind of made to rebalance the skin after cleansing. But because all of our cleansers are pH balanced it's You don't really need to rebalance the skin after cleansing.
So like I said, they're more just, offering that hydration and dose of skin supporting nutrients. And we have three toning mists in our line. They are the Neroli Toning Mist, the Rosemary Toning Mist. And then in the Wild Alchemy Collection, we have the Botanical Hydration Mist With Immortelle. The Neroli Toning Mist is our best selling toning mist. People love that one. It's a very simple formula. It's an aloe vera juice base, the neroli, which is derived from fresh orange blossoms. So it has a really lovely scent. So I think again, that's part of why people love that one so much. And then it's got some Aspen bark extract in it, which acts as a natural preservative. And also is a natural source of salicins.
Then the Rosemary Toning Mist, that's the other one in our Signature Collection. This one's gonna be more for normal, combination, and oily skin. It again is an aloe vera juice base but then it's a more purifying formula. It's got the rosemary in it and it's also got some white willow bark in it, which is another natural source of salicins.
So that white willow bark is often used in natural products as an alternative to salicylic acid. I personally, I know a couple of people mentioned breakouts and blackheads and that sort of thing. I love the rosemary toning mist, because like I said, I tend to be more congestion prone, but I'm not super oily, so I like this product a lot because it does offer that hydration with the purifying herbs.
And then lastly, we have our Botanical Hydration Mist with Immortelle in the Wild Alchemy Collection. That one is a little bit different. The other two are an aloe vera juice base. This one is a hydrosol. So it gives it kind of an almost soft texture. A hydrosol is like this watery runoff that you get when you create an essential oil through a steam distillation. The Botanical Hydration Mist is great for all skin types. It's especially good for sensitive skin. It contains a blend of four different types of chamomile. It's also got rose in it. It's got immortelle, of course, or life everlasting flowers. So that's a potent antioxidant. And then frankincense, which is known to tone, tighten and rejuvenate the skin. So giving it a bit more of an anti-aging property.
And that one, I would say, the scent profile is a little bit more herbal whereas the rosemary of course, smells like rosemary and the neroli is more sweet smelling because of the orange blossom derived neroli.
So those are the three toning mists that we have. So after you cleanse, like I said, pat your skin dry, then mist your toning mist over your face and neck. Our packaging says to allow it to dry and then apply your serum and facial oil. I actually always like to apply my serum and oil while my skin is still slightly damp from my toning mist. This is going to just help with absorption. It just helps your serum to be absorbed better. I actually like to mist my toning mist after I apply my facial oil as well. Totally not necessary. But I just like to do that as a final step. I feel like it kind of helps to dilute the facial oil a little bit. So it just gives it a really nice finish.
What else? You can use your toning mist throughout the day. Just spritzing it even if you're wearing makeup, you can just spritz it over your makeup.
If you tend to be more oily, you can use the Rosemary Mist during the day as an alternative to a blotting powder or a blotting paper. This one you can even use in your hair, on the roots if it's getting kind of oily. So I personally cannot live without a toning mist. I feel like a lot of people feel like it's kind of an unnecessary step, that you don't have to have, but I can't live without one.
So questions about toning mists at all?
Customer: Yes. Thanks. When I use the toner and then apply the serum and then apply the oil, there are beads of stuff coming off. I mean, is it the serum? Am I using too much of the serum that it's not getting in, but it's still beads up and pills off with the oil afterwards. That's the main reason why I'm here today. I'm not able to use both the serum and the oil together. Like today I used the serum, but now if I touch my skin and do this I get these little granular bits of the serum on my fingers. How can I prevent that? Am I using too much serum? I used about four or five pumps. Is that too much?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, that is kind of a lot. I tend to be like a chronic product overuser, and I feel like four to five pumps is a lot. I would say.
Customer: Okay, so how much would you recommend?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I would say like two to three should be plenty. Two to three pumps.
Customer: Okay, so maybe that's what I need to try.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, it could be a few different things. So I would definitely recommend applying it when your skin is still slightly damp from the toning mist. And then yes, use two to three pumps. And you can play around with either pumping it into your palm, dotting it on your chin, cheeks, forehead and massing it or just pressing into the skin.
Customer: So I don't necessarily have to rub, massage it in.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Right. You could just press it into the skin or you can dab it and then massage it, but maybe pressing it into the skin might help.
Customer: Okay. So it does absorb without too much massage.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Right. Yeah. You shouldn't really have to massage it too much.
I feel like if you're wanting to, because I like to do a lot of massage, if you're wanting to do more of that, I would do that with your oil not your serum. A couple other things I would say. If you are not incorporating any sort of exfoliation into your routine.
Customer: I do that three times a week.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh, okay.
Customer: The micro exfoliation one. I do that three times a week. So I'm doing all of that. And I just think I'm using too much product.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, that's probably it. The only other suggestion I would say is if you try to use less and you're still having the issue, I don't know if you'd want to do this, but you could always just mix, like, two pumps of your serum right in with your facial oil and apply it that way.
Customer: Okay. Yeah. I've tried that a couple of times.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Okay. Yeah. I would just start out by trying to use less because I feel like four to five pumps sounds like a lot.
Customer: Right. I thought I was overdoing it, but just wanted to check.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah. No worries. Like I said, I tend to use a lot, but I feel like I overuse oil more than I overuse serum because I do massage it in.
Customer: Yeah. That answers the question. Thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Good. Yeah, of course. Was there another question?
Customer: Hi. Yes.Thank you. Um, I used to have sensitive skin and using your products I'm actually noticing that it's going away.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh, good.
Customer: I'm able to tolerate, and you know, really like stronger products. So my question is: I'm healing from premature aging. I had a health issue that just caused my skin to age quickly, so aging is the main focus for me right now. But before I was focusing on sensitive skin. And so I love, love, love the Botanical Hydration Mist, but I'm curious about repairing skin that's prematurely aged would Neroli be the best choice for that if I get to a point where I can tolerate it and I'm not, I'm not sure I'm there yet, but I'm just curious what the, the best one would be.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: No, actually I think I would probably recommend sticking with the Botanical Hydration Mist because I would say that one has more ingredients to support anti-aging with the life everlasting flowers and the frankincense in it.
Customer: Oh, that's wonderful. Okay. Yeah. So I would probably just stick with that one. And for my serum, then is it okay? Like I was only doing one pump. Now I'm wondering if I should do more pumps.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: One to two is probably good. I mean, I'd say probably three max.
Customer: Okay. And I will say I have tried a lot of natural products from having sensitive skin. Yeah. Really, really good ones do not feel or work the same as your products. I just think they are phenomenal. So I'm really, really grateful. And I just wanted to add that in real quick.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: That's awesome. We love to hear that.
And that's the other thing too, with the toning mist and the serum, if you're applying your serum to damp skin, it kind of allows you to use less of your serum because it makes the product just kind of go further. Which is great because serums are usually your more expensive product. So if they can go a little further that's great.
Cool. Any other questions? Any other toner questions?
Awesome. Good questions, guys. Okay. So, moving on to serums. I feel like serums and oils are where things can start to get a little bit confusing because we do have a lot of them. But hopefully we can make it not so confusing. So, serums in general. Serums are excellent hydrators, there is the difference between dehydrated skin, which is water dry skin, and dry skin, which is oil dry skin.
And you want to incorporate into your routine both hydrating products, which is your toning mist and serum and moisturizing products, your facial oil. Using a combination of both of these types of products is going to help to achieve a healthy moisture balance in your skin to create a healthy, resilient skin barrier. Serums also usually contain higher levels of activated ingredients. So they allow you to really kind of customize your routine to target and treat whatever your specific skin concerns are. They are made up of a smaller molecule than facial oil. So they're able to penetrate more deeply to get those activated ingredients deep into the skin. And like I said, we have several different serums in our Signature Collection.
We have the Anti-Aging Serum, the Citrus Stem Cell Serum, and the Probiotic Serum With Tremella. The Anti-Aging serum is our best selling serum, probably our best selling product. People love this one. I like to refer to this one as just a daily dose of overall skin nutrition.
This one, sort of similar to the Aloe Herb Cleanser, is really a good choice for anybody. You can't go wrong with this one. It is good for all skin types. It's very antioxidant rich. It's got life everlasting flowers and buddleja extract. It's soothing. It's got some rose in it. Trying to think what else.
Oh, duh. I don't know why my brain just blanked. Hyaluronic acid. So we use a non GMO vegetable sourced hyaluronic acid in this serum. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant. It binds water to the skin. Hyaluronic in particular holds 1,000 times its weight in water, so is considered a super hydrator.
So really deeply hydrating the skin with hyaluronic acid is going to help to plump the skin. So it's minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. So again, this is a very popular choice. Then our Citrus Stem Cell Serum, that one is also in the Signature Collection. That one, good for all skin types, but especially like thicker textured skin, more resilient skin, skin that has had a lot of exposure to the elements and sun.
That one is great for targeted brightening. It contains citrus derived stem cells. So we use plant stem cells in a lot of our products. These stem cells are going to provide proteins and peptides and amino acids to really help to strengthen the skin. And then this one also contains a brightening trio, a brightening combination of amlaberry, which is very rich in vitamin C. And then it's also got licorice root and uva ursi. So licorice root and uva ursi are often used in natural products as an alternative to hydroquinone. Again, to help lighten and brighten the appearance of dark spots. And then lastly, we have our Probiotic Serum With Tremella. This one is great for all skin types, but especially for sensitive skin or skin that is out of balance.
This one has tremella mushroom extract. Which has moisture binding beta glucans, so it acts similar to a hyaluronic acid. This one also contains a probiotic ferment, so that's going to help to eliminate impurities on the surface of the skin. It can help to rebalance the skin. It can help to balance the skin's pH.
And then this one also has some olive leaf extract and astaxanthin as well, which is a powerful antioxidant. This one I always like to tell people, I don't know, scent is like such a tricky thing because it's so personal. Like, I don't really love the way the Anti-Aging Serum smells, but so many people do.
And I like the way the probiotic smells, but some people hate it sometimes and they say it smells like dirt. But apparently, I like the way dirt smells. So those are the three serums in our Signature Collection. So questions about any of those three?
Customer: Yeah, I do. So I was confused by, so I do have, you know, dermatologist told me you have thin skin, Scandinavian style. It's not common in the U.S. but you know, got that from my immigrant family. So I was going to ask you about that Citrus Stem Cell because you had mentioned it's good for thicker skin, but that it also strengthens your skin. So here's someone who I have keratosis pilaris, which is like more than 30 percent of the population have, which is where your skin kind of covers over the follicle. So you get more breakouts and you have to exfoliate a lot. Couple that with rosacea. So now I have sensitive skin where you can't, uh, exfoliate it without irritating the heck out of it and thin skin. So is the Citrus Stem Cell something I should be avoiding, or should it be something I should be trying for it to strengthen my skin?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I think it would be fine for you for strengthening your skin. Also, like I said, we have plant stem cells in a lot of our products. So it's not like specifically only the Citrus Stem Cell. It sounds like you are more sensitive. So I would probably lean more towards either the probiotic or our Activated CBD Serum is also a great option.
Customer: Can you talk a little bit about that last one? What's that? The activated one?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh, yes. We haven't got to that yet because that's in the Wild Alchemy Collection, but I will talk about that one.
Customer: All right. The Wild Fruit Serum, is that Wild Alchemy? Yeah. We haven't got to that. So you're going to talk about that later. Oh, okay.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Right now actually. At this very moment.
Customer: Okay, perfect. Thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah. Cool. So in our Wild Alchemy Collection, we have a couple different serums. The first is the Wild Fruit Serum.
So the Wild Fruit Serum, I like to think of it, like I said, we have so many it can be really confusing. I like to think of it like the Signature Collection Serums are a little bit more like targeted and then the Wild Alchemy Collection Serums are kind of more what is the word, like overarching.
I like to refer to our Wild Fruit Serum as our do it all serum because that one is hydrating, it's brightening, it's anti-aging. That one has the plant cells in it as well. That one contains Madonna lily plant cells and it's a really dense infusion of those plant cells. So about 1.5 million active plant cells in every little bottle of that Wild Fruit Serum. That one, it's great for overall brightening. It's got apple extract. So the same apple extract that's in our Phytonutrient Cleanser with vitamin C and malic acid. That one's got knotweed extract in it, which is rich in resveratrol. And then kakadu plum extract. So this is another potent source of vitamin C to help with brightening. It also contains phenolic acid. Phenolic acid behaves on the skin similar to an alpha hydroxy acid. Alpha hydroxy acids help to kind of dissolve the glue that holds the top layer of skin cells. So they can be great for brightening and improving texture and tone. That one also has copper infused water in it. The scent profile is obviously a little bit more fruity.
But that's the Wild Fruit Serum. That one's really good for all skin types as well. And then the CBD serum, that one it's kind of an offshoot of our Wild Alchemy Collection.
It's just sold in its own little boutique in our store just because of the legality of selling a CBD product. But this one, again, great for all skin types. Again, kind of more all encompassing. I would say this one is very hydrating, it's got both tremella mushroom extract and hyaluronic acid in it. So it does have a little bit of a thicker, creamier texture than some of our other serums.
When we created this serum, we partnered with Ojai Energetics because they are really a leader and a pioneer in the CBD space. It contains a water soluble CBD and a fat soluble CBD which is kind of unique and so I feel like it just kind of sets it apart.
And as far as CBD products go. The water soluble CBD is absorbed more quickly. So it has more of an instant effect. And then the fat soluble CBD is absorbed more slowly over time. So it has more of a cumulative effect as you continue to use the product. This one, like I said, is very hydrating.
It is very soothing. It's great for sensitive skin. I will let Grace touch on that because it's her fave.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Ah, thanks. I do love the CBD serum. I also have very sensitive skin. I have extremely dry skin. There's just, and I'm congestion prone. There's so much going on that it's just kind of hard to get it all under control. So I really like the CBD serum because it has, okay, so that extra Tremella in the serum really helps bring everything into balance while also having the CBD kind of like, it's hard to really pinpoint what CBD does because it kind of just goes wherever it's needed. And so it kind of just helps everything in a way, like it's very good for redness. It's very calming. You can pretty much tell the benefits of it immediately, almost right after applying it, which I love. But it is very hydrating, so I usually use it in the evening, as sometimes it can feel a little heavy if you wear it throughout the day. Not saying you can't wear it in the morning, because you totally can, but it's just my personal preference. But I have seen a huge, like, I can't even begin, I could talk about this serum for hours. Because it, the benefits that I've seen with my skin has been, like, life changing, honestly. Like, I'm not nearly as red anymore. And my skin is not as irritated after using it. It's just fantastic. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Customer: So I do want to make sure that I'm not taking something that's going to show up on a drug test right. I don't want this to have a whole body physiological reaction here. So thoughts on that. I don't know how this is formulated.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, definitely not. It's not going to show up on a drug test or anything. It doesn't contain any THC which is what you would want to be concerned with. So yeah, it's, it's strictly topical.
Customer: Thanks. Well, when you said you had to follow, like, certain laws or something, I thought I better check.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh, yeah. No. You are not going to get high from it or anything.
Customer: I just wanted to cover my bases. I thought just in case. So the Citrus Stem Cell compared with Wild Fruit for aging, wrinkles, spots. I have had sun damage and things like that. So how do they compare?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: They're both great. I personally tend to love the Wild Fruit Serum. The Citrus Stem Cell is really good for targeted brightening. If you have like one or two spots that you're working on, the Wild Fruit Serum is really good for kind of overall brightening, like increasing radiance and glow.
For me personally, the kakadu plum with the vitamin C and the phenolic acid that kind of sets that serum apart for me because the phenolic acid in it has that little bit of like an alpha hydroxy acid effect on the skin
Customer: Okay, because when you said the signature was targeted. I thought, oh, maybe, maybe that one's more targeted, but the Wild Fruit is targeted as well.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:It's just, like I said, the Citrus Stem Cell can be good if, say you have one spot or something that you're working on or because of the licorice root and the uva ursi, those are good. Like a good combination to help to lighten, if you have like one or two dark spots that you're focusing on you could also even alternate, you could use the Citrus Stem Cell in the morning and then you could use the Wild Fruit Serum in the evening.
Customer: Sounds wonderful.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So, yeah I love that one personally. Any other questions about any of those serums? We still have one more and elixirs to cover.
Okay. So the other serum that I'll talk about is the Activated Night Serum. So this one is our most recent serum launch. And then I'll also talk about our Concentrated Boosting Elixirs. So the Activated Night Serum, like I mentioned, is our most recent serum launch. This one is to be used as the name suggests at night.
That is because it contains our bioactive-A complex. So this ingredient is derived from algae, so it's a completely safe ingredient. You can even use it during pregnancy. But this is our alternative to/our version of a retinol. So retinol is kind of the gold standard in anti-aging. But vitamin A derivatives are not great for your health. They can be harmful to reproductive health. If you're using a retinol over an extended extended period of time, or retin A. It can start to thin the skin a bit. A lot of times they can cause hypersensitivity and reactions. So we wanted to create a product that had a similar effect on the skin without any of those negative health effects. So that is why we came out with this serum. The bioactive A complex, like I said, is derived from algae, so it's completely safe. But it has a similar resurfacing effect on the skin, the way that retinol does. It is to be used in the evening and with an SPF during the day.
I feel like it's kind of similar in texture to the CBD, how it's a little bit creamier. And it's really nice because we've paired that active bioactive A complex in this serum with some really soothing and calming ingredients like lavender and blue chamomile. So it's like a nice combination.
Then lastly i'll talk about our Concentrated Boosting Elixirs, so these are just kind of a fun product. They're kind of an extra. I feel like people often ask do I need to get the elixirs? No, you don't have to have the elixirs. They aren’t a necessary product, but we created these to offer a clean version of these popular activated ingredients.
You can use these to just boost the level of activated ingredients in your routine. If you're wanting to see more results more quickly. You can also use them to just really customize your routine even further. They come in a set of three. They come with this little dropper top. They're sort of a liquid consistency. And the way that you use them, you never want to apply them to your skin directly because they are very concentrated. You drop one to three drops of the elixir in with your serum. So you would pump a couple pumps of your serum, drop your three drops of elixir. Mix it, and either press it into the skin or dab and massage, whichever you prefer.
And you can kind of mix and match, so it's one to three drops-ish. You could mix one drop of Brigghten and three drops of Hydrate, or vice versa. Or maybe you just want to do three drops of the Revitalize at night. You can kind of mix and match. But the three that are in the set are the Hydrate. So it is a hyaluronic acid with vegan collagen pre peptides. We already talked about hyaluronic acid, very deeply hydrating, plumping, and the peptides are strengthening. Then we have our Brighten, which is a pure vitamin C with seabuckthorn. The vitamin C that we use in this one is a tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. The reason that we chose that vitamin C in particular is because a lot of vitamin C's that you find in the market are not stable. So you open your product and then it goes rancid really quickly and then it's not effective. So that form of vitamin C, the THDA, is a very stable product. It's a very stable form of vitamin C. It's also a very non irritating form of vitamin C. It's a pH of 7.
And then lastly we have our Revitalize Elixir. And this one is the bioactive A complex that we just talked about. It's the same ingredient that is in the Activated Night Serum paired with astaxanthin.
And like I said, you can kind of mix and match. The Revitalize you only want to use in the evening, you want to use it with an SPF, and we don't recommend mixing the Brighten and the Revitalize at the same time, in the same application. Like you would want to use one in the morning, one in the evening, not both mixed together.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So those are the elixirs. Okay, that's all of the serums and elixirs. So questions about serums or elixirs?
Customer: I do have one real quick. I just missed something that you had said. You had mentioned the ingredients in the Revitalize and you had mentioned it's got the bioactive A and something else. And I missed it.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh, it's bioactive A with astaxanthin, which is a powerful antioxidant. It is also what gives flamingos their pink color. Fun fact. You look like there could be a flamingo right behind you in your background.
Okay. So those are serums and elixirs. So then facial oils. So after you apply your serum, then you apply your facial oil. So this is your layer of moisture. This is your moisturizer. So all of our facial moisturizers are oils. We have chosen oils because they are pure. They don't require any fillers or waxes to be used. They are easily absorbed by the skin. So in our mind, they are superior.
And we have several different facial oils. We will start with our herbal facial oils. I won't go too deep into these because they're sort of self explanatory. They are named for the skin type that they are designed for.
So we have the Herbal Facial Oil for Normal and Combination Skin, the Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin, and the Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive Skin. All three of these are in our Signature Collection. All three are a grapeseed oil base. Grapeseed oil is a light textured skin balancing oil. It's rich in omega 6 and vitamin E.
Let's see. So then they, each of those contains an herb blend that is suited for the skin type that it's named for. So like, for example, the Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin contains purifying herbs like white willow bark that we talked about before. It contains neem. It contains black cumin seed oil which can be beneficial for oily skin and clogged pores.
Then the Herbal Facial Oil for Normal and Combination Skin. That one has echinacea in it. It's got chamomile. It's got some goji in there. The Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive Skin. That one is a blend of a bunch of different omega rich oils. But it does not contain any added essential oils.
And then lastly, in our Signature Collection, we have our Anti-Aging Facial Oil. So this is our best selling facial oil. This one, good for all skin types, but especially dry and mature. This one, is a jojoba oil base. So like we talked about, jojoba very closely resembles the texture of your skin's natural sebum. And then this one has a bunch of different seed oils in it. It's got broccoli seed oil, carrot seed oil, chia seed oil. Chia is rich in vitamin B3 and zinc. So this one is just kind of a great, very nourishing overall daily moisturizer. It's also got some goji in there, so it gives it some antioxidant qualities and provides some vitamin C.
Then in our Wild Alchemy Collection, we've got the Rejuvenating Facial Oil. This one is my personal favorite. It’s good for all skin types. It's a jojoba oil base, again. This one is our most potent, our most active facial oil because of the way it's made.
So our other facial oils contain 15 to 20 herbs probably in the herb infusion. And they contain probably 20 to 30 seed oils and CO2 extracts. This one contains one herb, the butterfly pea flower, which is very antioxidant rich. And then it contains far fewer of those CO2 extracts and seed oils. So the reason that we did that is because then we were able to include those fewer ingredients at higher concentrations, at higher percentages. So it makes it like a more active, more potent formula. And this one, I've never had any issue, but some people, if you're really sensitive, it might be a little too much. This one, you can mix if you want to. Say you're sensitive, but you still would like to incorporate it into your routine. You could always mix it. It mixes really nicely with the Anti-Aging Facial Oil. It mixes nicely with the Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive Skin.
Do you ever use this one? Grace, is it like too much for you? I can't remember.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: A little too much for my skin, unfortunately. I tried mixing it and I just, it was just not working well.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah. Everybody's skin is just so different.
Cool. So those are facial oils. Those are your moisturizers. So questions about facial oils.
Customer: So just a quick question, which was the one that had the black cumin seed oil in it?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: That would be the Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin. I actually think that the Rejuvenating Facial Oil has some black cumin seed oil in it as well, but Grace, will you double check on that for me? I think that it does. Any other questions about facial oils or moisturizers or anything?
Customer: I do. Okay. I was on a call just this last week, a short one, and I've already asked about this, but I have trouble with the oily film or whatever on my face after I apply it. And at night it's getting on my pillowcases and also, you know, my hair will stick to my face or it doesn't seem to like just blend in and it's just super shiny. It just seems kind of strange. I'm used to using creams. Okay. Yeah. It's so hard to deal with that. Like right now, I have some foundation on and powder, but often I have to put powder on there to keep my face from looking like I put oil all over myself and, you know, it's just not the usual look for people to be so shiny. I do have trouble with breakouts, which I used to have a long time ago. And since I started using Annmarie, I like using natural products, but I am, I don't know still having trouble. I'm just like, wow, I've got acne again. So small little clogged pores. Some are bigger. So I think it's probably from the oil. So I'm kind of struggling with the oil.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Okay. Yeah. Well, a few different things that you can try. Of course, like I said, it can be helpful to apply when your skin is still slightly damp from your toning mist because that can help with absorption. Of course, using less, you don't want to use too much. And if you use too much of it, I mean, like I said, I tend to overuse it, but you could even just use a couple of pumps and that should be plenty. You can try, you know, massaging it in, you can play around with just pressing it in and see if that makes any difference. You can try, like I said, after I apply my facial oil, I mist my toning mist.
Do you have one of our toning mists already?
Customer: Yes, I have the Neroli.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Okay. Yeah, that's a great one. I was just going to say the Rosemary Toning Mist might even be helpful just because it is kind of, I don't know if I really want to say mattifying, but a little bit more purifying/oil absorbing.
So you could try misting your toning mist after you apply your facial oil. You could even try to mix the serum and oil together. You could even mist, like, you could even mist your mist into the palm of your hand and do, like, a pump of oil so it kind of, like, thins it a bit.
And then, what else was I going to say? Oh, exfoliation. Do you incorporate any exfoliation into your routine too?
Customer: Yes, that in the tube, the scrub. And occasionally the one you use at night.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah that just can be helpful too, because, you know, if you have that, like, layer of buildup on your skin, then if you're not exfoliating and you have that layer of buildup, then your products aren't able to absorb well. But I feel like, I don't know, I would just play around with kind of those different things, like, the way that you mix it with the serum, or maybe mix it with the toning mist, or maybe apply the toning mist afterwards, or maybe use one pump less of the oil. I would just play around with it and see if any of those things help. As far as the breakouts, I am very congestion prone and I don't really feel like any of our oils cause me to breakout. Even our more moisturizing oils that we like to recommend for dry and mature skin are the jojoba oil base.
I personally love jojoba. I've struggled with congested skin for so long and jojoba is my go to. So, I wouldn't think that the oil is causing congestion. It could be if you are switching over from a more conventional product line to a more natural product line because of the high antioxidant content, it could cause a little bit of breakout for a while.
I would give it three weeks and if you're still experiencing it, then you would probably want to switch to a different product.
Customer: I've tried some other products because I thought, well, maybe I shouldn't be using the Anti-Aging Serum, but it's continued. I mean, it's not horrible. I'm still going to stick with Annmarie. I'm just trying to make it work because I don't want to use all those other bad products that I've been using for so long. And I've just wanted some more advice to see if there's something else I could do. So I'll try some of those things that you said.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Are you, you're using the Anti-Aging Facial Oil? Is that the oil you're using?
Customer: Well, I did at first, but I was getting breakouts, so I ordered some of the other products. I have a whole bunch of different serums that I'm trying and different oils. But a whole lot of money, so I'm trying to figure out what works best for me.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, absolutely. Well, also, we have a fairly lenient return and exchange policy because we want you to find what works for you. So don't necessarily feel like you're stuck with everything if it doesn't work for you. Yeah, hopefully that helps. I don't know, it's just kind of experimenting, I feel like, I guess, with, with that.
Customer: Yeah. Sometimes I pat my skin before I go to bed to get a little bit of the oil off because I'm just tired of soaking my pillowcases trying to get the oily, sort of yellowish color out of them. Yeah, I don't know how anybody can put that on and go to sleep and not get it all over the pillowcase.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I don't know. I feel like it's funny because like I said, I'm such an overuser of the oil and I feel like I don't really have that issue, but I don't know what the difference would be. My pillowcases are gray. Ha. Do you have that Grace?
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: No, I don’t have that problem.
Customer: Oh, you think that that would stain more? Mine are white, so I don't see oil spots, I just see color. Anyway, keep going. Sorry, I don't know.
Customer: I actually had a similar situation when I first started using the oil, it was way back, it's been a while, but when I started using these products, the oil based products, I started breaking out pretty badly too. And I feel like the same situation. What I found if, and I don't know if it'll help, but I exfoliated more. And when I used a lot less, I mean, we're talking like one pump and I'm mixing it in, like they're suggesting, with something else. I also use a separate, collagen building gel, but I'll mix that in with it, or I'll mix it in with like, they're suggesting with their other products, just use the one pump, mix it in with something else. And that took care of all of it.
I went through a very similar experience, like what you're saying, and I thought maybe I just can't use oils. And then I really just kind of learned without anybody really telling me by experimenting that everything they're saying is true. So but just use a lot less, right. And then thin it out before applying. And then I wait like just a couple of minutes and my skin absorbs it. If I put on too much, I'll notice because my skin will have more of that oily sheen, you know, but you can take a little facial tissue and you can dab and you're good to go.
Customer: What do you recommend for makeup?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So as far as makeup, somebody was asking about makeup. We do have one makeup product in our Favorite Brands Marketplace. It's the Au Naturale Mineral Powder Foundation. I believe that we are working on partnering with another makeup brand in the future but it hasn't been decided yet. I also like Kjaer Weis, RMS is a good one. There's like so many out there. ILIA is a good one, but there's a bunch of different ones.
Customer: Can that be listed somehow? I wouldn't have any idea how to spell that.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I just threw a few in the chat. I used to do wedding makeup and I really liked the Kjaer Weis stuff. But there's a lot of good ones out there.
Okay, awesome. So let's move on because we're almost out of time. So I want to touch on exfoliants really quickly.
We've already talked a little bit about exfoliants, exfoliating and how it is important in your routine because it's going to help to eliminate build up on the surface of the skin so that way your treatment products can absorb better. A lot of times If people say like “oh, I'm using all these really moisturizing products, but my skin still feels really dry. What am I doing wrong?”
Incorporating exfoliation can be helpful. We have three different exfoliants in our line: the Ayurvedic Facial Scrub. So this is this little cutie right here. This is a very gentle exfoliant that can be used for even the most sensitive skin. It is a dry herbal exfoliant. So it's a powder. You just shake it into the palm of your hand, mix it with a bit of water, and mix it into a paste. Or you can just mix it directly into your cleanser, which is what I like to do with it. You can mix it with any cleanser, but it mixes really nicely with the cream cleansers like the Aloe Herb and the Phytonutrient.
It's hard to overdo it with this one. So, if you wanted to, most people could use this every day. Then we have our Kaolin Micro Exfoliant. That's our other physical exfoliant. So, both of these exfoliants are a physical exfoliant. They have that, like, little bit of scrubby, gritty texture to them that's physically polishing the skin.
The Kaolin is the one in the tube. That one is a cream exfoliant. It's got crushed bamboo powder. That's the exfoliating component. That one I would say you could use more like two or three times a week. It's got the kaolin clay, which any clay is going to be very purifying, very mineral rich. And then it's also got lavender essential oil, so calming. And then lastly, we have our Resurfacing Facial Exfolaint. That one is our chemical exfoliant. So chemical in the way that it works on the skin. Not that it contains a bunch of chemicals.
It contains a honey derived lactic acid. That is the exfoliating component. Lactic acid is a very mild alpha hydroxy acid. So again, alpha hydroxy acids dissolve the glue that holds the top layer of skin cells to help improve texture and tone. That's the resurfacing. That one you would want to use just once a week. And you would use it in the evening with an SPF during the day.
Our SPF is our Sun Love Everyday Sheer Sunscreen. It is an SPF 20. It's a non nano zinc oxide. It's got buriti fruit oil and pumpkin seed oil in it to nourish and moisturize the skin as well. Like I said, it's an SPF 20, so it's great for everyday wear. If you're going to be sweating or swimming or laying at the beach, we of course recommend reapplying.
That one can be used on its own as your daytime moisturizer, or it could be used over top of a facial oil if you would like.
And then lastly, masks. Everybody should just get the Illuminating Pearl Mask because it's the best. It's hydrating, it's brightening, it's got some crushed pearl powder in it so it imparts like a really nice kind of luminosity on the skin. It is kind of like this jelly texture that feels really nice and cooling on the skin so it's great in the morning when skin is kind of tired and puffy. Then we've got the Charcoal Cacao Mask which is very antioxidant rich and also purifying.
The Coconut Honey Mask is a balmy texture and it's good for very dry skin. And then the Purifying Mud Mask is a dry, powdered mask. I actually love this one. Of course, it's purifying. You can mix it with water. I've mixed it with a cleanser before if I want a more purifying cleanse. Or my favorite is mixing it with Manuka honey, which you can get at the health food store. I get a Manuka honey UMF 15. It's great because the Manuka honey is a humectant so it draws moisture to the skin and the manuka has other skin benefits as well. So I love that combo.
And then lastly for real this time, we have our two eye care products, the Anti-Aging Eye Cream and the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum. Both are wonderful. I usually recommend that if you're going to choose one or the other, I prefer the eye cream. It just feels more nourishing to me and my eye area is always very dry. It's got damas rose plant cells and cucumber, which is cooling and silica rich. Great for puffiness.
The Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum can be used on its own or layered under the eye cream. If dark circles are a big concern of yours this can be a good choice as it contains sake peptides that can help to kind of retexturize that under eye area. With the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum I always make sure I tell people to use a tiny little bit and apply it when skin is still slightly damp because otherwise a lot of times you will get that kind of pilling that was mentioned earlier.
Okay! I think that's really it! Any other questions? I know that's so much information. If you think of other questions that you didn't get to ask, you can always email us at [email protected]. Our team is very small, so if you just throw my name in there, I'll get it.
Customer: I have another question. I know. I'm sorry. I'm asking so many. But this is a shout out to Grace, since we seem to have similar problematic skin types, what are you suggesting? Like, what do you use that you found works the best for your skin type? And I know it still might be different for me, but I would love your experience.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Oh, girl, let me tell you my whole routine. I have a whole thing. So there's two products that I would say are like my holy grails, which are the Botanical Hydration Mist and the Activated Night, or no, Activated CBD Serum. So it's kind of, okay, let me preface this by saying I am a little extra.
You do not need all these products. This is just.
Customer: No, give me the extra. It's okay.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: I get so into it. Okay, I'll go through it as if I'm doing a full blown routine with exfoliation and face mask too, so you can get the whole image. So what I will do is I will use the Kaolin Micro Exfoliant, mix it with my Aloe Herb Cleanser, and do that in one step.
It makes the exfoliant a little less gritty and intense when you mix it like that, so it's easier on my skin. I have found that that works fantastically for my sensitivity. It's such a good combo.
Customer: The Kaolin Micro Exfoliant with the aloe herb, what?
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Cleanser.
Customer: Thank you. So even though you have sensitive skin, you can do a little bit of that one if you mix it with a cleanser? Cause I was leaning away from it based on skin sensitivity. So that's nice to hear. Okay.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Oh yeah. I have found that if I used it alone, I would sometimes get a little red and a little bit of reaction to it. But ever since I started mixing it, I have had zero issues. It's just so nice too, the smell.
And then I will use the Botanical Hydration Mist and I use quite a lot. I will fully spray my whole face to the point where it's like dripping. You don't need to do that, but that's just how I do it. And then I will go in with, in the morning, I'll use the Probiotic Serum. And then in the evening. I will switch off, so one night I'll use the Activated CBD, and then the next night I'll use the Activated Night Serum. So I couldn't use a retinol forever, any traditional retinol, my skin would literally freak out as soon as I put it on my face. It was awful. But I have had good luck with the Activated Night Serum. I would say the first time I used it, my skin was kind of like, well, what's going on here? But ever since that first time and kind of finding that I can only use it like a couple times a week, it has been totally fine. If anything, I think it actually really helps with my skin a lot. Honestly, it helps calm it down. And so I love that. And then my face mask of choice, I go between the Illuminating Pearl Mask and the Charcoal Cacao, is that how you pronounce it, Emily? I always say it wrong. The Charcoal Cacao is my favorite. So those are all things I have not had any issues with and I have seen great results.
Customer: Which item did you say was right before the mask, was it one of the oils? That it might've been a little sensitive the first time you used it, but then after that, it was fine. What was that one?
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: I didn't even mention my facial oil. Thank you. It was the Activated Night Serum.
Customer: Okay. So you can tolerate that one too.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Yes, but I can't do it two nights in a row.
Customer: You are giving me a little bit of hope there. I was thinking as long as I can tolerate the Revitalize Elixir, I might be ready to try the Activated Night Serum. That might be a way to test.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Yeah, I was definitely a little nervous at first, but I was to the point where I was using three drops of Revitalize consistently. So I was like, okay, I think I've built, my skin has been adjusted to the Revitalize enough that I feel like I could use it. My first application, my skin was a little bit like I could tell a little bit of a reaction to it. But then again, I didn't have that once I started using it consistently.
Customer: So once I'm doing that consistently, I'll try the night serum, but maybe not every day.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Yes. So for facial oil I use the Radiate Facial Oil from the Essentials Collection. It's great. I just think my skin prefers the Radiate because there's a little less ingredients in it. So I think it is kind of simplified after using serums and all the other products too. I think it's just a good, like, completion to my routine.
Customer: I am curious about it. Should we leave a little bit of time sometimes in between products? I noticed sometimes it feels like if I do my serum, maybe I need to do a little bit less of the facial oil and cause I then put the eye cream on. And. I'm not sure if it's really absorbing or impacting my skin in the same way, but maybe if I'm exfoliating using a little less, that would solve it. But should we wait any time in between applying?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: You can. It doesn't have to be substantial, but maybe 30 seconds or so between applying your serum and then applying your oil and all of that. You can just kind of play around with that to find what feels good for your skin, you know?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Awesome, you guys. All right. Well, thank you guys all so much for joining and spending some time with us, hanging out.
