What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are one of my favorite parts of living a natural lifestyle. Imagine smelling delicious, incredible fragrances from natural sources, while also receiving the benefits of aromatherapy! Don’t worry, this isn’t just something that exists in your imagination – you can have it! Essential oils are the oils from plant sources. Some good examples are peppermint, lemon, and one of my favorites, neroli! These oils can be retrieved three ways: through distillation, cold press, (both of which are excellent natural ways to get the oils) or through solvent extraction (which uses chemicals to retrieve the oils).
Essential Oils in Aromatherapy
Essential oils are great for use in aromatherapy. They are able to enhance your emotions. Additionally, essential oils are great for adding fragrance to a home without the use of chemicals or sprays. Some of my favorite uses for essential oils in aromatherapy include massage, nebulizer diffusion, heating the oil over a candle, and burning the oil as incense.
Essential Oils- Handle With Care!
A very important aspect that must be remembered when discussing essential oils is that they must be handled carefully. Undiluted essential oils can cause major health and skin issues if they aren’t properly handled, so it’s important that you are prepared before you start using them. Make sure you never apply essential oils directly to your skin unless they have been diluted within carrier oils, such as grape seed oil, olive oil, almond oil, or hazelnut oil. Carrier oils allow you to dilute essential oils and deliver them to your skin, without destroying the integrity of the oil.
Some of my favorite essential oils are included in my Annmarie Skin Care products! For instance, you’ll find jasmine essential oil in my Anti-Aging Facial Oil, peppermint essential oil in my Rosemary Peppermint Body Wash, and lavender essential oil in my Coconut Body Oil, just to name a few! Try bringing some essential oils into your life, and see the difference.
