Beautiful Voices is our ongoing blog series that highlights inspiring, empowering women. Our most recent Beautiful Voice is Lisa Acton. See what she says when Annmarie asks her some questions about her own personal beauty…
Lisa is one half of the beauty blogging team at Beauty Info Zone. She has worked as a model, actress, makeup artist, teacher, and counselor. She has three children and a very patient husband. Lisa loves to test and write about beauty products, focusing on the joy and fun she finds while playing with beautiful colors and pampering with fabulous skin care and body products.
What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge is to say NO once in a while. I am so excited about life and all the amazing opportunities out there that I often get stretched far too thin. I have had to learn to say no and instead take some time to pamper myself a bit. That little bit of self love goes a long way toward making me a much healthier, happier person. I can’t say I have completely overcome this challenge…it’s a journey, but I have definitely made some progress!!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Well, I have worked in education for over twenty years, first as a teacher and then as a high school counselor. My mother was a teacher and my father was a teacher, coach, principal, then superintendent of schools. When I told them I had decided to go into education, they both gave me the best advice I have ever gotten: make friends with the custodian!
Where and when do you feel most at peace?
I take a minute every single morning and every single night to focus on the here and now, to bring myself fully into the moment and be grateful for all the blessings I have in my life. Those two little minutes bring me infinite peace that lasts me the whole day and then the whole night. I think it’s essential to ground myself like this and focus on what is really important.
What does beauty mean to you?
I really think that beauty stems from joy. Happy people, people who love themselves and love life are always beautiful.
What makes you feel beautiful?
I am definitely a product junkie, and I love to sit and experiment with makeup trying new looks all the time. Being able to really take time and enjoy my beauty rituals make me happy, which in turn makes me feel beautiful! And there’s also my husband, who truly thinks I am beautiful regardless of what I am wearing or how I smell or how much I weigh. He makes me feel beautiful no matter what.
What’s your favorite beauty secret or tip?
To mix cool and warm colors for the prettiest lip look. A makeup artist once advised me to try putting a cooler lipstick on first, like a medium pink, then put a warm lip gloss over it, like a peach. It never fails to give a gorgeous, more complex lip that truly stands out and is totally flattering for any skin tone.
Isn’t she beautiful? If you want to keep up with Lisa’s amazing life, follow her blog at beautyinfozone.com, find her on Twitter at Beauty Info Zone and on Facebook at Beauty Info Zone.
Much Love,
Annmarie Gianni
