Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: From there we can start to talk about products and routines and all of that fun stuff. So the basic routine that we recommend for pretty much anybody to do both morning and evening is cleanse, tone, use a serum, and then a moisturizer or facial oil. All of our facial moisturizers are oils. So this is your basic routine. You can always kind of adjust this routine to your skin, to your lifestyle, to just whatever works best for you. So maybe you don't want to do a four step routine. Maybe you currently have no skin care routine and you want to just start as simple as possible. So if you want to do that, you want to get just like a cleanser and a facial oil, and then you could just build your routine from there. But so the first step in your routine, whether your routine is 10 steps or two steps, is cleansing. So we'll start with cleansers. And before we even jump into cleansers and cleansing let's talk about collections. Within our line, we have a few different collections and the two main collections that we have are the Signature Collection, which all the Signature Collection products have this tan labeling.
The Signature Collection. These products, a lot of them have been around since we got started. A lot of them are our best sellers, products that people have used and loved for a good while. And then we have our Wild Alchemy Collection. All of these products have the black and gold labeling. And the Wild Alchemy Collection is our luxury collection. What makes it our luxury collection is just that the products in this collection contain higher levels of activated ingredients. So ingredients like our bioactive A complex and vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. So they contain higher levels of those ingredients as well as more exotic ingredients. Things like mongongo oil and baobab oil. So that is kind of what sets that collection apart. Also the crafting process, the way those products are made is usually just a little bit more laborious as well. And then I will also mention our Essentials Collection really quickly.
The Essentials Collection, it's just two products. It's the Renew Facial Cream Cleanser and the Radiate Facial Oil. And those two products are offered at a lower price point than any of our other products. And the reason for that is just that they are really simple formulas. They do not contain our herb infusions. But they're still really great products. They can be really good for more sensitive skin. I know some people mentioned irritation as a concern. They can also be good for like a teen or somebody who maybe is just kind of wanting to get started on a really simple routine. But those are the three main collections that we have.
So in the Signature Collection the Citrus Mint Cleanser and the Aloe Herb Cleanser are the two cleansers.
We'll start with the Aloe Herb. Actually, that one is our most popular cleanser. People love that one. If you have ever gotten one of our starter kits or our trial kits, like our, the little Clean Beauty kit, a lot of people try that one. That is the cleanser that's in that kit. So that one is great for all skin types. I like to tell people if you're confused, if you're overwhelmed, if you're not sure where to start, that Aloe Herb Cleanser can be a really good place to start because it's good for all skin types. It's a cream cleanser, so it feels very creamy and nourishing on the skin. It's got aloe vera of course, which is rich in vitamins and minerals, phytonutrients and enzymes. We use an aloe base for a lot of our products. That one's also got lemon essential oil which is purifying and brightening, and it gives it a really nice scent. People love the way the Aloe Herb cleanser smells. It's got coconut oil, which contributes to that creamy texture. Calendula, so really good for soothing and calming the look of skin. So that is the Aloe Herb.
And then the Citrus Mint. I'll just mention it quickly because somebody did mention congestion, but I don't think most people in this group would need this one. But this is our purifying gel cleanser. So it's a gel consistency. It feels very like cooling on the skin. It leaves the skin with that deep clean feeling. And it's also the aloe vera base, but then just a more purifying herb blend. So those are the two in the Signature Collection.
And all of our cleansers are pH balanced, so the pH is actually printed on the packaging. The pH of our cleansers is 5. 5 to 5. 6. The pH of your skin is 4. 5 to 5. 5 so that's important because you want to choose a cleanser that's pH balanced so you're ensuring that your cleanser is not stripping your skin, it's not drying out your skin, you're not disrupting your skin's natural protective barrier.
And then in our Wild Alchemy Collection we have two cleansers as well. The Restorative Cleansing Oil and the Phytonutrient Cleanser. So the Restorative Cleansing Oil, this one is a little bit different. All of our other cleansers, you're going to wet your face. You're going to pump your cleanser, massage your cleanser into the skin, and then just rinse clean and pat dry. With this one, you actually want to apply it dry. So dry hands, dry face. And really massage it in and then you can just rinse it clean. And that can be it. You can remove it. A lot of people like to remove this one with a warm towel or a warm washcloth. You can also use this one as the first step in a double cleanse routine. And if you want to do that, you would just massage it in, rinse, and then follow it with a second cleanser, whatever cleanser you'd like—Aloe Herb, Citrus Mint, Phyto, whatever. Let's see this one is good for all skin types. For dry and mature skin, it feels very nourishing. It leaves a bit of oil on the skin. Especially if you use it on its own and you're just rinsing it'll leave a little bit of an oil on the skin which can be really nice for dry and mature skin. I even have more congestion prone skin and sometimes I will use it on its own and I like the oil on my skin. It doesn't, you know, feel heavy, greasy or anything. But for oily and congestion prone skin, you can also use this. It sounds a little bit counterintuitive, but actually like attracts like, so the oil is going to help to soften up, help to break down any excess oil and congestion in the skin. It's a jojoba oil base. So jojoba very closely resembles the texture of your skin's natural sebum. And then this one's got tea tree oil in it, which is purifying. It's got Manuka oil. I'm Manuka obsessed, but Manuka is like very deep cleansing, very calming to the skin. So that is the Restorative Cleansing Oil.
And then lastly, we have the Phytonutrient Cleanser. This one is also in the Wild Alchemy Collection, this one I would say is our most rich cleanser and also probably our most active cleanser. So it's a very rich feeling. It has a thick, almost fatty texture. So it's a cream cleanser. This one has a mango seed butter in it, which kind of contributes to that fatty texture. It's also got coconut oil in it. This one has got, what else? Some acai. It's got our signature serum blend in there and then this one has some apple extract in it. So that apple extract is rich in vitamin C and malic acid so it's really good for brightening the skin. And with any of the cleansers, but especially this one, I recommend that you really you know, take your time as you cleanse, really massage the product into your skin and let it just kind of be on the skin for a minute before you rinse it because you want those activated ingredients to have like a moment to be on the skin to work and be effective.
Customer: Emily, may I ask you, while you're on the cleanser, now, I have the anti-aging one, okay? And this is the Aloe Herb. I love it, and I love this as well, the Anti-Aging Serum and facial oil that I bought after having had an interview like this from you. My question is, how much cleanser do I put on my hand in order to get to the point that is going to be effective? I have used a little brush for years. It's a very soft brush and I put some of this on the brush and that was fine, but then all of a sudden, I didn't know how much of the cleanser I had in the bottle because there's no indication where I am in this. So that's another question I have. How do I know how much is left? So is it best to use a brush or should I just use my hands?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: You know, I think you could do either. You can apply it with your hands and then do your brush if you like your brush, or you can apply it on the brush. I would say, I mean, I think it's normal that you, cause I think that's also probably the 50 milliliter size of the Aloe Herb Cleanser. I think it's normal that you’d go through that a little bit more quickly than say your serum. I feel like I am a chronic product over user, but I would think for your cleanser, you might want to use like, more of like a quarter size, like a nickel to a quarter size amount in the palm of your hand.
I don't know, how much do you use Grace?
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Usually I start with just one or two pumps. I would probably mention that you might be able to use less if you use your hands and add a little bit of water to it because it'll spread out easier. Whereas the brush might kind of soak in a little bit of it. So that's one thing that just came to mind. But I usually use a pump, maybe a pump and a half if I'm feeling frisky. But I, again, I add water to my hands because it helps move it around.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: You can just kind of play with it and see what you feel like works well for you.
Customer: Okay, how do I know that I'm pretty much close to the end of the bottle?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Now that's tricky. Because you can't see in the bottle, but the glass has a purpose, you know, because it does help to protect and preserve our products. That's why we use this type of glass. It also helps to protect and energize the products. But yes, it can make it tricky. I don't know. Honestly, I tend to just kind of try and feel, and then if I think that I'm getting close to being out or getting low, sometimes I will open it and kind of peek in, it still can be hard to see though. I don't know. I mean, I feel like it's just a matter of feeling it. The bottles are kind of heavy though anyways, so it's a little bit tricky.
Customer: I don't know. So far, I am very satisfied with the product. I'm looking forward to what you're going to say about the toner because you have not talked about that. I don't know where that goes.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Are there any other cleanser questions while we're on cleansers?
Customer: I have a question. Can you alternate between your different cleansers like the Aloe Herb and then maybe that Phytonutrient one?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, absolutely. I alternate all the time. You could do Aloe Herb in the morning, and Phytonutrient at night. The Restorative Cleansing Oil, that one's nice at night, I think because it's great for removing makeup. It's great for removing mascara, even waterproof mascara. I like the Restorative Cleansing Oil in the summertime. Like if I'm wearing, if I'm at the beach and I have a bunch of sunscreen or something on, this is great for removing sunscreen too, but you can absolutely alternate.
Good question. Any other cleanser questions?
All right, cool. Okay, well we'll move on to the toning mist then. So we have three different toners in the line. They are the Neroli Toning Mist which is this one here, the Rosemary Toning Mist, and then the Botanical Hydration Mist With Immortelle. Side note: his Rosemary mist is empty and you definitely can feel that it's way lighter than the neroli that's full, just to go back to the how do you tell how much is in your bottle question. I can feel that this one's empty.
But anyways, so your toner is going to just complete the cleansing process. Your toner offers a dose of hydration and skin supporting nutrients. Like I said, we have three different toners in the line. So the Neroli Mist, this one is our most popular. It's in our Signature Collection. People love this one. It's a very simple formula. It's the aloe vera juice base, the neroli essential oil, which is derived from fresh orange blossoms. So it smells really lovely. Again, part of why this one's so popular, I think, is because people like the way it smells. And then some aspen bark extract which acts as a natural preservative and also is a natural source of salicins. So that's the neroli. This is really good for any skin type, but especially, like, normal to dry a little bit of sensitivity maybe.
And then the Rosemary Toning Mist. This one is good for more normal, combination, or oily skin. I actually love this one, but I'm, like I said, more congestion prone. And the rosemary, again, it's a very simple formula. It's the aloe vera juice base. It's the rosemary. This one has some white willow bark in there. So again, a natural source of salicins. That's the rosemary.
And then lastly, the Botanical Hydration Mist With Immortelle. This is the one in our Wild Alchemy Collection. This one is a larger size too, just a note, it comes in a larger bottle. This one is a hydrosol. So the other two are the aloe vera juice base. This one is a hydrosol. The hydrosol is like, it's this watery runoff that you get when you create an essential oil through a steam distillation. And it gives it just this really kind of soft texture. It makes it, I'd say, it's like a little bit more moisturizing maybe than the other two. This one also has the Immortelle of course. So giving it that antioxidant property. This one, it's very, very good for sensitive skin types. It has a blend of four different types of chamomile. And it also has some rose in there. And then this one's also got frankincense in it, which is known to tone, tighten and rejuvenate the skin. So this one I would say is kind of a step up a little bit as far as anti-aging ingredients that are in it. And again, a really great choice for sensitive skin. Grace is our sensitive skin poster child here at Annmarie Skin Care and this is one of her holy grail products, she says. So those are the toning mists and the way that you use your toning mist, after you cleanse, you rinse, you pat the skin dry, and then you just mist your toning mist over your face and neck. You can also use your toning mist throughout the day if you just want a little refresh, if you just want a boost of hydration. What else? I think that's kind of it with toning mists. Any questions about the toners?
Customer: So that comes right after the cleanser?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:Yes, that's right.
Customer: And you're misting it on there versus just putting, I mean, when you mist it do you rub it in or are we not rubbing it in?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:No, you don't need to rub it in. You can just mist it, and then you're good to go. I mean, some people prefer, I guess, like the, you know, kind of the old school toners. You would use a cotton pad or a cotton ball, and if you really love that, you could do that. You could mist it onto a cotton pad and then wipe it but you don't need to.
Customer: I have a question for Grace with sensitive skin. What do you, and I do use the Botanical Mist, is there anything in particular you do with that for sensitive skin in particular?
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Emily said earlier that she is a chronic product overuser. I am too, especially with the Botanical Hydration Mist. I spray it all the time! I use it throughout the day because sometimes I will experience redness depending on what I eat. So like, if I eat something spicy, if I have a glass of red wine, if I have raw tomatoes. Like, you know? It's all over the place. So I spray it on my face all the time. I spray it after a workout. If I know I'm going to be eating something that my skin won't like, I will spray it on after I eat. I also have super dry skin too, so it's kind of like a dual action. It helps with the dryness and the redness. And I'll spray a good amount on it. Like till I'm dripping sometimes. Which you don't need to do. Let me make that clear. You don't need to do that. I just do that because I just love it so much. So yeah, I just overuse it, but you can kind of find whatever works for you and your skin. But I do make sure to use it morning and night at the minimum. So two times a day.
Customer: Thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I can just see you at a restaurant, like finishing your meal and then you're just busting out your Botanical Hydration Mist.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Literally, I use the Neroli travel size and I put it in my purse.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh man, love that.
Awesome. Okay, any other toner questions? Okay, cool. So then the next step in your routine is going to be your serum.
Customer: I have a question. Can I ask? So do you have to wait in between cleanser and toner or you just cleanse and put it on right away?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, you don't really need to wait. So after you rinse, you can just pat your skin dry and then mist. You don't need to wait.
Customer: Okay, great. Thanks.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah. If you wanted to, it's not going to hurt, but you don't need to. So yeah, the serums and the oils are where we'll head next. And I feel like things can get a little confusing with serums and oils just because we have so many options. But again, hopefully we can answer any questions and help it make sense.
So your serum, in general, is a thinner consistency. They're a smaller molecule than facial oil, so they're able to penetrate the skin more deeply. They usually contain high levels of activated ingredients, so they allow you to really target and treat whatever your specific concerns are. In general, they're also great hydrators. So there's the difference between dehydrated skin, which is skin that's lacking water, and then dry skin, which is skin that's lacking oil. Most people have a little bit of both. They have a little bit of dehydration, a little bit of dryness. And so that's why we recommend using a combination of hydrating and moisturizing products. So your hydrating products are your toning mist and your serum. And then your moisturizing product is your facial oil.
So in the Signature Collection, we have three different serums. We have the Anti-Aging Serum, the Probiotic Serum, and the Citrus Stem Cell Serum, which I don't have here. But the Anti-Aging Serum is the one we'll start with. This one is very popular. It is our best selling serum. I think it is our best selling product. It's good for all skin types. So sort of like how I tell people with the Aloe Herb Cleanser, if you're overwhelmed, if you don't know where to start you can start with the Aloe Herb cause you're not really going to go wrong. This is kind of similar. It's good for all skin types. I like to refer to this one as just a daily dose of overall skin nutrition. It has got some calming ingredients. It's got some rose in there. It's very antioxidant rich, so it's got buddleia extract and life everlasting flowers. This one, it's got hyaluronic acid in it, so it's very deeply hydrating as well. So hyaluronic acid is a humectant. It binds water to the skin. And hyaluronic in particular holds 1,000 times its weight in water. So it's considered a super hydrator. So drawing water to the skin, deeply hydrating the skin is going to help to plump the skin. So that's going to help to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. So that's the Anti-Aging Serum.
The Probiotic Serum With Tremella. This one is good for sensitive skin or skin that's out of balance. So it's got the tremella mushroom extract in it. So this one's also very hydrating. Tremella acts very similar to a hyaluronic acid. And then this one also has a probiotic ferment in it. So that probiotic ferment is going to help to eliminate bacteria and impurities on the surface of the skin. It also can help to balance the skin's pH. This one also has some olive leaf extract in there. It's got astaxanthin, which is a really powerful antioxidant that we use in a lot of our products. It's also what gives flamingos their pink color. Fun fact. But that is the Probiotic.
And then the Citrus Stem Cell, that one, it's good for all skin types, but it's especially good for brightening the look of dark areas, like for targeted brightening. So that one it's got a trio in there, a brightening trio, that consists of amlaberry, which is very rich in vitamin C. And then it's got licorice root and uva ursi as well. And Licorice root is used in a lot of natural products as an alternative to using hydroquinone, which is a kind of yucky ingredient that you find in a lot of conventional products that are geared toward brightening.
The Citrus Stem Cell Serum, it's kind of got two components to it because you've got that brightening trio in there. And then you've also got the citrus derived stem cells. So we use stem cells in a lot of our products. All of our stem cells are plant derived stem cells. A lot of conventional products that use stem cells, they can be derived from maybe places you wouldn’t want them to be derived from. So all of ours are plant derived. And these stem cells, they're going to provide proteins and peptides and amino acids that are going to really help to strengthen the skin, helping to kind of increase resilience in the skin. So that is the Citrus Stem Cell. So those are the three serums in our Signature Collection.
And then in our Wild Alchemy Collection, we have our Wild Fruit Serum. For some reason, I only have this little teeny guy of Wild Fruit. But so this one, I like to refer to it as our do it all serum. It's hydrating, it's brightening, it's anti-aging. This is definitely one of my favorite products. It's very all-encompassing. I love this one. So this one, it's good for all skin types. It's got copper infused water in it. This one's got apple extract. So it's the same apple extract that is in the Phytonutrient Cleanser. So rich in vitamin C and malic acid to help to brighten the look of skin. This one has Madonna lily plant cells. It's got about 1. 5 million of those plant stem cells in each bottle. Not this bottle. This is the travel, but the regular size bottle. And so a really dense infusion of those stem cells. This one has also got knotweed extract, which is really rich in resveratrol. It's got kakadu plum extract, another really potent source of vitamin C. It also contains phenolic acid. Phenolic acid behaves on the skin sort of similar to an alpha hydroxy acid. And alpha hydroxy acids help to dissolve the kind of glue that holds the top layer of skin. So they have a resurfacing effect on the skin. So that is the Wild Fruit Serum. And to use your serum after you mist your toning mist. I say while your skin is still damp from your toning mist, that's when you want to apply your serum. And you can choose if you want to pump it into the palm of your hand, you can kind of like dot it on and then rub it in. Sometimes I'll put it in my hands and then just press it into the skin. That's just kind of personal preference. Usually you don't need too much of the serums. Like I said, they're pretty concentrated and especially if you're applying them to your skin while it's still damp from the toning mist that's going to help them go a little further too, which is nice because your serum is going to be one of your more expensive products. But so I'd say like a pump is usually good for your serum. Maybe like two pumps max. So those are kind of the basic serums. And then we have a couple others that we'll touch on. Do we have any serum questions so far?
Customer: I do. So I had ordered months and months ago, just a sample kit of the, I guess it is the restorative or anti aging one. So it just came with, it just came with the cleanser. And it came with the cleanser and the serum. Huh.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh, did I lose you? I lost you. I think you're muted.
Oh. Well, maybe we'll come back to her question whenever we're able to get her back. Okay. So for now, we'll move on, I guess.
Customer: I have a couple of questions. Can you hear me?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yes.
Customer: Okay. Is it safe to apply the serum on the eyes, the eyelids as well?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I would not recommend applying the serum to the eyelid. No. I would keep the serum outside of the orbital bone. If you're wanting to use a serum around the eye area, I would probably recommend the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum because this one is specifically designed for the eye area. And usually, you know, it's just like the skin in that area is so much thinner. It can be a little bit more sensitive. And even with our eye products, the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum and the Anti-Aging Eye Cream, we do typically recommend that you keep them just around the orbital bone. You want to use your ring finger. And just apply it kind of around the orbital bone. And then the product does kind of like, move. Like it kind of goes where it's needed to go. I will sometimes use the anti Anti-Aging Eye Cream a bit on my lids. because I feel like it's getting kind of droopy. But as a company we recommend using it around the orbital bone, even for the eye products. Our other serums that are designed for the face, I definitely wouldn't put those on your eyelid.
Customer: Okay. And another question. I have the Anti-Aging Serum here and the top of the box says to store in a cool area for optimal shelf life. So, is it recommended to keep it in the fridge?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician:You can keep your products in the fridge to extend the shelf life, like more so before you open it and start using it. Like if you're already using it, you don't, unless you want to, you don't really have to put it back in the fridge every day. But storing in a cool, dry place, essentially it's like a cupboard in your bathroom and that is fine usually. It's just kind of, you don't want it to be like sitting out in the sun or like in the heat.If you are wanting to extend the shelf life, you can absolutely store it in the fridge until you start using it and that'll help to extend the shelf life a little bit.
Some of the products, like, especially now that it's summertime, it's just kind of nice to keep them in the fridge. Like your toning mist is kind of nice in the fridge. Sometimes I'll stick my Anti-Aging Eye Cream in the fridge. That's kind of nice. But you don't have to store it in the fridge.
Customer: Okay. Well, thanks. I have a couple of boxes, so I guess I'll keep some of those boxes in the fridge until I'm ready to use them. Yeah. And my last question is, should I apply the serum morning, and night? Is it twice a day?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah. So the typical routine that we recommend of cleanse, tone, serum, oil, you would do that morning and evening. And again, you can kind of customize it. Like, I don't know. I don't always cleanse my face in the morning. Sometimes I'll just splash water on my face or if I'm really in a hurry I'll just mist my toning mist and put on my eye cream and go.So you can kind of customize it, but in general we do recommend that four step routine morning and evening.
All right. Good question. Thank you.
Okay. Any other serum questions so far? Good questions. Love the questions. I feel like the last consult I did, nobody asked questions and I was like, oh my god, I'm just talking this whole time.
Okay, so those are serums or the start of serums because we do have a couple others that I will mention really quickly.
In our Wild Alchemy Collection, our newest serum launch is the Activated Night Serum.
So this one we just came out with pretty recently. It's pretty fantastic. So this one has our bioactive A complex in it. The bioactive A complex is our kind of version of/our alternative to using a retinol or a retinoid. So retinoids and vitamin A derivatives, they're kind of like the gold standard in anti-aging. But they are not really great for your health. They can be harmful to reproductive health. If you're using a retin A type product over an extended period of time, it can really start to thin the skin. And again, we really want to strengthen the skin, support our skin's natural barrier. We want to have healthy resilient skin as we age. We don't want to thin the skin.
So that's why we came out with the bioactive A complex. This ingredient is derived from algae. So it's a completely safe ingredient. It's a Made Safe approved ingredient. But it has a similar effect on the skin, that similar like resurfacing effect, that sort of exfoliating effect that you get with a retinol type product so it's going to help to smooth the skin again helping to improve tone and texture in the skin and then we've also paired, it's a really nice effect, a nice balance in this product because we've paired that active bioactive A complex with really soothing and calming ingredients like lavender and blue chamomile. So it gives it this really nice balance. This one is also very hydrating. So most of our other serums are a little bit more kind of aqueous. They just kind of have that thinner consistency. This one, the night serum, is a little bit more creamy. So it's a little bit richer in texture. So it feels very moisturizing to the skin. Very hydrating. And also it smells lovely. So that is the Activated Night Serum. This one you want to use only at night as the name suggests. And you want to use it with an SPF during the day because it does make your skin a little bit more sensitive to the sun. So you want to use it with an SPF.
And what else with this one? Oh, for sensitive skin types, even because like I said, we kind of included in the formulation, those really soothing, calming ingredients. Those with sensitive skin can even use this one, which usually a lot of people with sensitive skin can't use a traditional retinol or retin A type product because it can be pretty irritating. So that's kind of a nice thing about this one too. Even Grace uses this one, right Grace?
Grace Murray Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Yeah, only, usually only a couple, like one to two times a week max for my skin usually.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So that's the Activated Night Serum. I think I might just skip over the CBD. I feel like we don't need to talk about it.
Customer: What does SPF mean again?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: SPF stands for sun protection factor.
Actually, you know what? Maybe I will talk about CBD just because I know we had some sensitive skin people in this group. Sometimes it's hard to talk about everything because then I feel like I just overwhelm and confuse people.
But the Activated CBD Serum, this one is also in the Wild Alchemy Collection. On our website, it's kind of in its own little store. And this one, I do just want to mention because it is really good for sensitive skin. So like I said, the Probiotic Serum in the Signature Collection is a great choice for sensitive skin. The CBD serum is also a great choice for sensitive skin. I know Grace loves both of these serums. And you can even use both. A lot of times with our serums, people do want to use more than one. With the serums, we don't really recommend mixing them, but you can alternate. So you could use the Probiotic in the morning and CBD at night or vice versa. But the CBD serum. So when we created this one we partnered with Ojai Energetics to source our CBD because we really wanted the best, of course, and they are really a leader and a pioneer in the CBD space. The CBD serum, like I said, is very soothing. It's very calming. This one's very hydrating as well. It's got both the tremella mushroom extract and the hyaluronic acid. It has that thicker, creamier texture similar to the Activated Night Serum. The CBD that we use, we use both a water soluble and a fat soluble CBD in this one. So that is one thing that kind of sets it apart, I would say. It makes it a little bit unique among all the CBD products out there. That water soluble CBD is going to be absorbed more quickly, so it's going to have more of an instant effect. And then the fat soluble CBD is absorbed more slowly. So it has more of a cumulative effect over time. But this serum I know, along with the Botanical Hydration Mist, these are Grace’s two Holy Grail products. So for those with sensitive skin, these are two good options.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Do we have any questions?
Customer: I love the CBD serum too. And I also just started using the Activated Night Serum. So if you are using both of them, would it be that I would use the Activated Night Serum twice a week possibly and then otherwise use CBD serum just during the day or would I use that at night as well instead of the Activated Night Serum? This is getting complicated.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Well, you can kind of just play around with it and see what feels best for your skin. But yes, you could do the CBD serum. CBD serum morning and evening, and then you could choose maybe like two nights that you want to do the Activated Night Serum instead of the CBD. Does that make sense?
Customer: What's the danger in using Activated Night Serum regularly?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: There is none. It's just that you mentioned that you have more sensitive skin. So sometimes for people with more sensitive skin, if they use it every night, it can just start to feel like a little bit much for your skin. But you should know, like if you start using it more often, like say you're using it two nights a week and that feels fine for you and you want to try and kind of push it and try it three nights a week and see how it feels. You could totally do that. And I think if it's too much for your skin, you would feel it. It might feel a little bit sensitive, a little bit irritated. And Grace could probably speak on that because she's probably played around with how often to use it.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: Yeah, when we first launched it our COO, who is lovely. She said to recommend for all the team to use it for two weeks straight to see the full benefits of it. And I got to about, I want to say, four days in a row. And I could just tell that my skin was just a little more red than usual. Whereas like the previous days, my skin was pretty clear and lovely, honestly.
I love this serum. It's so amazing. But yeah, I could just tell that my skin was just kind of like, maybe lay off just a little bit. And so I just kind of found my happy medium is two days a week.
Customer: Okay, I have another question which may be unique to me and I can take it from somebody at another time, but there's something wrong with me and the anti-aging line. The only thing I can use there is the eye cream because otherwise it seems to make my skin really sensitive and I don't know what it is about it, but it does. Do you have any idea what would cause this problem for me?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I mean, I feel like that's hard to say because it could be that you might just be sensitive to some ingredient that is in those products and it's hard to say what ingredient it would be because everybody is sensitive to different things, you know?
Customer: That's what I thought. Thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Sorry. I know that's not super helpful.
Customer: So going real quick to that serum. So from the sample that I've tried, what I realized is my face is either really dry or, you know, when you put it on, it's like it's gone. I put it on and it's gone. How much of it do you use? Or maybe one thing I did catch, maybe I need to keep it a little bit damp.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah so that can be helpful. Like I said, I do always recommend and I prefer to apply my serum when my skin is still a little bit damp from my toning mist. It's just going to help with absorption.
And you really shouldn't need a whole lot of the serum. I would say like, I mean, one to two pumps should be plenty of the serum. Now if you are using it, like your serum is not your moisturizer. So if you're using it on its own, that is not going to feel like enough. You are going to feel like you need more, it's not going to leave skin feeling hydrated and moisturized enough. So you do always want to use your facial oil over top of your serum. So that could be the issue. Were you using facial oil over top of it?
Oh, you were.
Customer: Yeah, yeah. I was putting the serum on. It just seemed like it would just soak in. And again, maybe that's because they were sample bottles and I didn't know how much I was trying to get out. Yeah. Okay, thank y'all. It just seems like it was really absorbing very quickly and I couldn't even move it around.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Okay. Try applying it to damp skin. If you feel like you need more, like I said, I mean, I feel like, wouldn't you say Grace, like two pumps max of the serum? Yeah. And you can play around with, like I said, you could either dot it on and like rub it in, or you could even put it in your hands and then press it in.But it will absorb fairly quickly because, you know, you want it to absorb so that those activated ingredients are getting deep into the skin. You don't want it to be just like sitting on the surface of the skin, but then once you apply your serum and it does absorb, then you want to go in with your facial oil to seal everything in and provide that moisture to the skin.
Customer: I also. Make sure that my fingers and hands are just a bit moist.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh yeah, that can be helpful.
Customer: And because it was a small, very small sample bottle, I didn't have a pump to really work with. So, after the facial, oh, I mean after the serums, I missed that part because I went out. So did you talk about the oils or not yet?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Not yet.
Customer: What about an eye serum? Was there an eye serum there?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: We do have an eye serum. It's the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum. This one is in the Wild Alchemy Collection.
So we have two eye products. It's the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum and the Anti-Aging Eye Cream. I don't know where mine went. I just had it. There it is.So you can use one or the other, which usually if somebody is going to choose one, I tend to recommend the eye cream or you can use them together. For somebody who feels like their eye area is their main concern, maybe they want to use both and then they would layer the Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum underneath the eye cream. Both are excellent. I tend to prefer the eye cream just because my eye area tends to be really dry. So this one feels more nourishing to me. It has damas rose plant cells in it. It's got cucumber, so rich in silica, very cooling. The Fruit Ceramide Eye Serum is more of that thinner serum consistency, obviously. So for me, if I use this one on its own, it just doesn't feel like enough moisture. But some people, like another gal on our team, she uses the eye serum in the morning and the eye cream at night. So you can kind of play around with it, but those are the eye products.
Customer: Thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, of course. And then real quick in the serum category, we do have our Concentrated Boosting Elixirs which I will just touch on. These are just kind of a fun extra product. You don't need to have the boosting elixirs. They're just kind of a fun, unique product that you could incorporate if you want.
They come in a set of three. So you get the hydrate elixir, the brighten elixir. and the revitalize elixir in the set. They have a little dropper top and they're a pretty liquidy consistency. You never apply these directly to your skin. They are always to be mixed. So they mix best with a serum. So you would pump your serum into the palm of your hand. You would drop one to three drops of the elixir, mix and apply. If you were not using a serum, you could mix with the facial oil, but these are fun because they allow you to just customize your routine a little bit more. They allow you to boost the level of activated ingredients in your routine. So the hydrate elixir, this is a hyaluronic acid with vegan collagen, pre peptides. So again, we talked about the hyaluronic really deeply hydrating the skin, the peptides are strengthening.
The brighten is a pure vitamin C with seabuckthorn. So vitamin C of course is brightening. We use a tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. That's the type of vitamin C that we use in this product. And the reason that we have chosen that particular vitamin C is because it's a very stable form of vitamin C. A lot of vitamin C products on the market, the vitamin C is not stable. So you open the product and it goes rancid really quickly and then it's not effective. So this particular form of vitamin C is very stable. It's also very non irritating. It has a pH of 7. Sometimes vitamin C products, if you're more sensitive, can be irritating. So that's why we've chosen that particular one, but that's the Brighten Elixir.
And then the Revitalize Elixir. This one is the bioactive A complex with astaxanthin. So it is the exact same active ingredient that is in the Activated Night Serum. So if you are somebody that does not have sensitive skin and you're really wanting to have the most active combo that you can. You could mix three drops of the revitalize elixir with the Activated Night Serum. But again, that's going to be sort of like a more intense combo. But you could do that.
The elixirs can kind of be mixed and matched, so you could use one drop of hydrate and then two drops of brighten in the morning with your serum, or maybe at night time you want to do just three drops of revitalize, or maybe you want to do one drop of hydrate and two drops of revitalize, so you can kind of play around with them and mix and match. But they're just kind of a fun, unique product. I have not come across another line that has a similar product and I have worked with a lot of different skin care lines.
Okay, cool. So those are serums. So any other serum questions or questions about the elixirs or anything like that?
Customer: You're going to talk about the sun protector, right?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yes. The Sun Love is our everyday sheer sunscreen. And so, yes, that one is important because if you are using the Activated Night Serum or if you are using the Revitalize Concentrated Boosting Elixir, you want to make sure that you're using your sunscreen during the day. So the Sun Love is an SPF 20. It is a broad spectrum. So protecting from both UVA and UVB rays. It is a non nano zinc oxide. It is reef safe. That one has got pumpkin seed oil. It's got buriti fruit oil. And you can choose with the Sun Love, you can use it over top of a facial oil. So you would apply your toning mist, your serum, your facial oil, and then your Sun Love, or you could use it as your daytime moisturizer on its own. And so you would do toning mist, serum, and then just the Sun Love. So that's just personal preference. What else about that one? Like I said, it's an SPF 20, so it's great for just everyday wear. If you are, you know, really sitting out in the sun, if you are sweating or swimming or something like that, then we definitely recommend reapplying it.
Customer: So your daily routine, all of these things that you are putting on your face, do they protect you from the sun?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So all of our other products like all of our serums and oils are very antioxidant rich so that can be really helpful in fighting free radical damage and protecting from environmental stressors, but none of our other products contain an SPF that's going to really, you know, protect your skin from the sun.
Customer: Is that intentional or?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: That none of our other products contain SPF? Yeah. I mean, we only have the one SPF product. Typically, I don't know. I feel like most serums don't contain an SPF, a lot of moisturizers do, but because our moisturizers are facial oils we've chosen not to include an SPF in any of them aside from the Sun Love, which is still an oil base, but it has a little bit more of a creamy consistency, I would say, than like any of our other facial moisturizers, our facial oils.
Customer: What I am wondering is am I safe thinking that I can, you know, go out and not have to worry about the sun?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: If you're not using the Sun Love?
Customer: Right.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I mean, we definitely recommend using a daily SPF. I think it's really kind of a personal thing. I am not great about wearing an SPF every day, which is terrible because I'm an esthetician. But I just am not great about it. And I think people, there's definitely varying views on that. I think some people are very much like you need an SPF every day. And that is the general recommendation that yes, you should use an SPF every day. But again, I think it kind of comes down to personal preference. Like I said, I don't always. If I'm going to be out in the sun, if I'm going to the beach or something, of course I'm wearing an SPF.
Customer: So the beginning of the day, if you're going to use it?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yes, you would use it in the morning. I mean, I know Grace is pretty good about it. Don't you use it every morning? You get the gold star.
Grace Murray – Annmarie Skin Care Marketing Assistant: I do. I get more red, so I like to really get it on there.
Customer: How often do you reapply?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I would say if you're just using it for your normal everyday routine—running errands, working, doing whatever, I think you can just apply it in the morning and that's fine. I don't think that you need to reapply. I think if you're out in the sun, like I said, like you're at the beach, you're swimming, you're sweating, anything like that, then you would want to reapply. Like, if you apply in the morning then you could re-apply mid-day. It sort of just depends on what your day consists of.
Customer: Thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Of course. Okay. So that's the Sun Love. So then facial oils. So your facial oil is your facial moisturizer. And all of our Like I said, all of our facial moisturizers are oils. We have chosen that because oils are more pure. They don't require any fillers or waxes to be used. They are easily absorbed by the skin. Your skin's natural form of moisture is oil. Not to say that we will never have a cream because I think that that may be in the works. Wink, wink but I don't know when that will happen exactly.
But as of now, all of our facial moisturizers are oils and we have several different ones. So in our Signature Collection we've got our herbal facial oils. So the Herbal Facial Oil for Normal and Combination Skin, Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin, Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive Skin. And then we've also got our Anti-Aging Facial Oil.
So all three of the herbal facial oils, they all have a grapeseed oil base. Grapeseed oil is a light textured, skin balancing oil. It's quickly absorbed. Then they just have a herb blend that is suited to the skin type it's designed for. So the Herbal Facial Oil for Normal Combination Skin is a balancing facial oil. In addition to the grapeseed, it's got some goji in there. It's got some echinacea in there.
The Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin. This one is a more purifying herb blend. It's got some neem and black cumin seed oil in this one which can be really helpful for things like congestion and clogged pores.
The Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive Skin. That one contains no added essential oils. It's a bunch of omega rich oils, so it's got camellia seed oil, sacha inchi oil, it's got some squalane in there. But again, no added essential oils in that one, so that can be a good choice for sensitive skin.
And then the Anti-Aging Facial Oil, this one is a jojoba oil base. So the herbal facial oils, they're a grapeseed oil base. This one is a jojoba oil base. Like I said, jojoba very closely resembles the texture of your skin's natural sebum. So it's a good choice for dry and mature skin. I think it's a good choice for anybody. I just love jojoba oil. But this one, like I said, is a really good choice for dry and mature skin. It's very nourishing. It's got a bunch of different seed oils in it. It's got carrot seed oil, broccoli seed oil, chia seed oil in this one. Chia, for example, is rich in vitamin B and zinc. This one has some goji in it as well. So giving it more of that antioxidant component. So that's the Anti-Aging Facial Oil. This one is very popular.
And then in our Wild Alchemy Collection, we have our Rejuvenating Facial Oil. This one is our most potent facial oil, our most active facial oil. So this one's good for all skin types, but I would say probably not the best choice if you have extremely sensitive skin. If you are more sensitive and you want to try it, I would just mix it. So you could mix it with the Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive or the Anti-Aging Facial Oil. But this one like I said, it's our most potent, our most active. So our other facial oils contain, in the herb infusion, a bunch of different herbs. I think it's like 20 herbs or something. And this one, it contains just one herb. It's the butterfly pea flower. And then this one also contains fewer of the seed oils and the CO2 extracts. And the reason that we did that is because then we were able to include those fewer ingredients at higher percentages at higher concentrations. So it makes it more active. It makes it more potent. This one, like I said, it's got the butterfly pea flower. It's got baobab oil, which is brightening. It's got marula oil, which is very rich in antioxidants. It's got some blue tansy in there. This one has Mungongo oil. So it's very softening to the skin. It feels very soft. So I love this one. That is the Rejuvenating Oil. And I think those are all the facial oils. So questions about facial oils or moisturizers or anything? No?
Customer: Obviously, the oils and and the serums you just go down to the neck with also?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah I do. I feel like, like I said, I tend to overuse my products anyways. So I'll mist so that my skin is pretty damp and then just kind of pull my serums and oils down to my neck and decollete when I apply them.
Customer: And you don't really have a product just for this area, do you?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: We do not. Any of our facial products can be used on the neck and decollete. A lot of our customers do like to use the Radiant Skin Silk on their chest as well. And that is actually a body lotion. But a lot of people like to use it on their chest. So that is an option that you could try.
Customer: Oh, thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I personally don't do that because like I said, I just pull my oil down. But it's an option and a lot of customers do like that.
Customer: Thank you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, of course. Any other questions?
Customer: No, but you're delightful. I really enjoy. You really explain things so thoroughly. I learn an awful lot from you. I just enjoy listening to you.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Oh, that's so nice. Thank you. I'm so glad. I feel like it's nice to hear that it is helpful because like I said, it feels like so much information. I hate to overwhelm people.
Customer: You're doing a great job.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Thank you.
I see another question.
Customer: Do you apply the moisturizer, the oil after the serum completely dries on your face or is it necessary to wait until it's completely dry before you apply the oil?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: You don't have to. I think that's just kind of personal preference. You can put on your serum and then wait for a minute before you apply your oil. But if you're in a rush or something, you don't have to and it's fine. You also can, you don't have to, but sometimes after I apply my serum, I'll mist my skin again with my toning mist and then apply my oil. That's all just something that you can just kind of play around with and see what feels good for you and your skin, but also it shouldn't take that long for your serum to absorb.
Customer: How long does it take to see the effect?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: I feel like it kind of depends on the product. So a lot of times I think you see kind of almost an instant effect with most of the products because just like boosting the level of hydration in the skin can really have a pretty quick, noticeable effect but as far as things like fine lines and wrinkles or like dark spots, that sort of thing, it will take a little bit more time. I usually tell people you want to give it, like, at least a month, maybe more like six to eight weeks before you determine how you feel about the result.
Customer: Got it. Thank you. I have one question about makeup if I can ask. Yeah the foundation and lipstick. I was looking into it. The foundation it looks like it's a powder, right? Is that right?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, so in our Favorite Brands Marketplace we do have a mineral powder foundation. It's the Au Naturale brand. So these are brands that it's not our product, but there are other brands that we recommend.
Customer: One more question on the Sun Love. Is it something, again, like the serum? How do you apply it?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: That one is a pump top. So you just pump it into the palm of your hands.
Customer: Okay. And then you just do it just as you do the serum?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, exactly.
Customer: I don't know if you addressed this when I went off, but just a basic scrub for once in a while. Not a mask. I don't have that kind of time, but like a scrub.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah. So we have a couple of different ones. The Ayurvedic Facial Scrub, which is this little guy here. And then we have the Kaolin Micro Exfoliant. The Ayurvedic Facial Scrub. This one is really good for sensitive skin. It's good for all skin types, but even people with really sensitive skin can use it. It is a dry powdered herbal exfoliant. So it's a powder and you just shake it into the palm of your hand, and then you mix it with a little bit of water to make a paste, massage it in, rinse it off. Or what I like to do to save a step, you can just mix it in with your cleanser. So it mixes really nicely with the Aloe Herb Cleanser or the Phytonutrient. So that's the Ayurvedic.
And then the other one that we have is the Kaolin Micro Exfoliant. This is really popular. I love this one. This one is more of a cream exfoliating scrub. I feel like this is what you think of when you think of a face scrub. So it's that kaolin clay base. So any clay is going to be really rich in minerals and then really purifying to the skin. And then this one has some lavender in it. So the lavender is the scent profile. The exfoliating property in this one is a crushed bamboo powder. So it still feels pretty gentle on the skin. It's a little bit richer and a little bit more scrubby than the Ayurvedic. With the Ayurvedic, most people could use this every day if they wanted to.
The Kaolin Micro Exfoliant, this one you would use probably two times a week, maybe three times a week. This one also can be mixed if you wanted it to be more gentle you could even mix it with one of the cream cleansers. It is really nice with the Aloe Herb Cleanser because then you get that lemon-lavender smell that's really lovely. But these are the two scrubs that we have.
Customer: When do you use that? I don't think I've ever used that.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So you would cleanse with your cleanser, and then you would apply your exfoliant. So cleanse, exfoliate, and then you would rinse it off, mist with your toning mist, apply your serum, and your oil. You also could, like I said, mix these with your cleanser, so then it would be one step where you would cleanse and exfoliate at once. Sometimes if I use this in the shower, I won't cleanse first, I'll just use this as my cleanser and my exfoliant.
Customer: How do you know when your skin needs it?
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: So like I said, in general, the recommendation for this one is to use it two or three times a week.
I personally feel like I do know because I feel the texture almost on my skin. The build-up, if I don’t exfoliate. But if you don't know, you can just use it two or three times a week and that's usually fine for most people, for this one.
Customer: That's the scrub.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Yeah, the kaolin.
And then masks. Sure, we could talk about masks really quickly. We do have one other exfoliant. It's the Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant, but we're kind of out of time. But the resurfacing, that one is a chemical exfoliant. It's a lactic acid exfoliant. Whereas these ones are the scrubby, gritty, physical exfoliant.
So masks, we have a few different ones. Is there any in particular that you want me to touch on? Or just in general, all of them? Best for dry skin. Ok.
So the Illuminating Pearl Mask or the Coconut Honey would be what you would want to choose for dry skin.
I personally would go with the pearl mask. I love the pearl mask. Everybody loves the pearl mask. This one is a hydrating, brightening treatment mask. So it's got mountain wildflower honey, which is a humectant that draws moisture to the skin. And then it's also got licorice root and uva ursi. So those are the same two lightening and brightening ingredients that are in the Citrus Stem Cell Serum. So great for brightening the look of skin, brightening the appearance of dark spots, sun damage, pigmentation, anything like that. Oh, shoot. It's out of stock. Well, it's great still, so we'll just keep talking about it. And then it's also got crushed pearl powder in it, which gives it kind of this radiance that it imparts onto the skin, which is really nice. It has kind of a creamy, jelly texture. So it feels very cooling on the skin, which is nice in the summertime. It's nice in the morning if you're kind of tired and puffy.
And then the other one for dry skin would be the Coconut Honey Mask. And that one is great as well. It's a really simple formula. It's like a thick, balmy texture. And that one, a lot of people like that one in the wintertime because it's very nourishing, very moisturizing. But that is the Coconut Honey. So those are the two that would be best for dry skin.
Emily Haupt – Annmarie Skin Care In-House Esthetician: Perfect. All right, you guys.
