Beautiful Voices is our ongoing blog series that highlights inspiring, empowering women. Our most recent Beautiful Voice is Jessica Adriance Cowan. See what she says when Annmarie asks her some questions about her own personal beauty.
I’m a 37-year-old wife and mother to a 3-year-old daughter and 9-month-old son. Less than a month ago my husband, two children, and I moved to our ranch to live life closer to nature. You can read more about our adventure at my blog www.mayacamamama.com. I enjoy writing, cooking, reading, knitting, hiking, and doing yoga. I am interested in learning more about the practice of herbal medicine and hope to participate in the Yerba Woman Herbal Apprenticeship Program at the Motherland Botanical Sanctuary in Willits, CA in March 2015.
What event has defined your life?
Becoming a mother three years ago changed me, and has challenged me more than working as a hospice social worker (my job prior to becoming a full-time mom). I love being a mama, but my second love is definitely writing. About a year ago I started a blog to share photos and personal thoughts about motherhood and life on our start-up ranch with my husband.
Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
Reading Brene Brown’s book Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead inspired me to finally take the leap to start my blog last year. I’ve always wanted to be a writer, and thanks to the encouragement of my husband, I finally started writing and it feels really good to have that space to write.
Where and when do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in nature—walking around our ranch, walking in the woods, or on the beach. There’s not a lot of quiet time having a toddler and baby near, so I really cherish the few quiet times I have to myself.
What does beauty mean to you?
As I get older, my understanding of beauty has changed through the years. After having worked as a hospice social worker, I recognize the beauty that arises and emanates from people who are living authentic lives, who follow their passions and their heart regardless of what others might think of them. There’s an inner light that shines from people who really enjoy the work they do and that’s beautiful.
How does Annmarie’s mission fit into your lifestyle?
Several years ago when my husband and I decided to try to get pregnant, I started to become more conscious of the ingredients in the beauty products I was using. I love that Annmarie’s products have organic, natural ingredients that I can safely use on my body.
Isn’t she beautiful?
Much Love,
Annmarie Gianni
