Beautiful Voices is our ongoing blog series that highlights inspiring, empowering women. Our most recent Beautiful Voice is Melanie Schmidt. See what she says when Annmarie asks her some questions about her own personal beauty.
My life has been a journey of obstacles and blessings, but I view everything as a “lesson” and take the stance that if it happened, it was meant to happen and what can I learn from this? There is always more to be developed internally and if you pay attention to the signs around you, you will see the meaning of your life unfold in mysterious ways. I have a sweet little family with an endearing husband, a 7-year-old son (who has reminded me that I will always have the heart of a child!), and a furry little Chihuahua who I call my “4-legged son.” Every day I wake up is a day worth being thankful for. I enjoy exercising, reading, writing, cooking, shopping, and kickin’ back with a good cocktail on a patio! If I had to sum up the core of being in a poem it would be: After A While by Veronica A. Shoffstall. (I’m a poet at heart!)
What event has defined your life?
The thing in my life that has come to define who I am today happens to also be the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through emotionally and physically—the death of my mother to cancer. This is the thing that opened my eyes to reality on a grand scale of multiple dimensions. I researched information from all angles and read hundreds of books regarding health and disease, watched film after film and reports and studies on the history of cancer. It taught me to eliminate toxicity from my cupboards, cleaners, foods, and all products, become a vegan, and embrace the moments of my life in 24-hour increments.
All of my delving for prevention on cancer somehow lead me into Annmarie’s website for skin care. I felt 100% safe purchasing her products and my skin loves them. Not only can I say that my life has changed for the better externally, but internally as well. I haven’t been sick in three years and literally feel like a million bucks every day health-wise and head-wise. My eyes are clear and my skin glows like it did in my 20’s.
What makes you feel beautiful?
Love, first and for most! Being loved and loving in return make my insides feel beautiful. As for the exterior, I feel most beautiful after a full night’s sleep, of course. I feel beautiful after I walk out of a yoga class and take a deep inhale. I feel beautiful when the breeze catches my hair when I’m lying in my hammock with a good novel and my toes are freshly painted. I feel beautiful when I wipe the make-up off my face, put my hair in a bun and lay in the tub. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” I love that quote. It’s so true!
Where and when do you feel most at peace?
Outdoors on a bike when it’s sunny outside. Or inside on a rainy night with a big blanket and a book. I like my own company and the peace of my own thoughts floating around in my head. I relish my alone time! I also love to tap away at a keyboard and share my thoughts on my blog. My mind is an open book!
What do you do when you want to pamper yourself?
That’s easy! I shop! I could browse around clothing stores and gift shops all day long and never get bored. I have a fetish for shoes, jewelry, and skinny jeans. Pampering myself is a necessity. I work very heard at my job and deserve to gift myself.
What are your words of wisdom to other beauties out there?
Love yourself. Inside and out. Flaws and features. From the freckles to the cellulite, you are a creature of beauty. Embrace your imperfections and walk tall and proud everywhere you go. Your aura is what people feel. Emanate confidence and beauty and that is what people will see. You deserve to shine! Your body has helped you in many ways throughout your life and carried you through many obstacles. Treat it like a temple and own the scars it picked up along the way. The more love you have for yourself (inside & out), the more love you will attract from others. You get back what you give out. Life is like a boomerang. That is the truth!
Isn’t she beautiful?
Much Love,
Annmarie Gianni
