Beautiful Voices is our ongoing blog series that highlights inspiring, empowering women. Our most recent Beautiful Voice is Julie Walsh. See what she says when Annmarie asks her some questions about her own personal beauty.
Health and nutrition are Julie Walsh’s passions…but the call of the cookie is her daily nemesis. Like everyone, she’s had her share of life’s ups and downs, but her place now is one where she finds peace and happiness. Julie is a a single working mother, balancing responsibility with fun whenever she can. Her greatest joy is her children, who continually amaze her with their spirit and wisdom as they grow into their own.
Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
My inspiration hasn’t necessarily been any one person, but rather a continual learning experience that comes from other, generally older women placed in my life. When I was 12 years old, the older “woman” was 16 teaching me to navigate my development into womanhood. In my 20’s, the older women were generally in their 30’s sharing their wisdom and offering guidance without telling me what to do. Now that I’m in my 40’s, the older women are anywhere from mid-50’s to late-60’s, again helping me with life, only now I am transitioning into a phase that consists of aging gracefully.
Surprisingly, a lot of inspiration is coming from younger women as well, who help me to rediscover the mystery and wonder that is still alive and well all around me. Seeing “things” for the first time through their eyes inspires me, and when they look to me for wisdom, it’s an honor I take with great responsibility.
What does beauty mean to you?
Once upon a time, beauty equaled physical appearance. Now it’s the light in someone’s eye, the joy of a story told over and over, and the contentment that is exuded when someone is comfortable in their skin.
What makes you feel beautiful?
What makes me feel beautiful—lately—is walking barefoot in the grass. It brings back youthful memories and makes me feel free of mirrors and time.
How does Annmarie’s mission fit into your lifestyle?
I haven’t EVER been one to care for my skin. I took it for granted. Now that I am aging, I am astounded at the market for a women’s insecurity and the chemicals that are associated with the fountain of youth. Annmarie’s mission of infusing everything with love and natural ingredients fits my lifestyle. Love isn’t really anything new for me, but the importance of getting back to the simple/natural ingredients in life is definitely in the forefront of everything that motivates me. The price is right, too.
What are your words of wisdom to other beauties out there?
Keep it simple. Take care of yourself both inside and out from the youngest age possible. Nothing worth having comes easy, but new habits can be learned. When you start doing something right for yourself, your mind, body, and soul recognize it and get right on board.
Isn’t she beautiful?
Much Love,
Annmarie Gianni
