Confused about what products to use based on your skin type? Wondering what your skin type even is? Different skin types need different types of products. Here is our quick guide on what generally works best!
It might be very obvious to you what your skin type is, but it might not. A good way to test this is to wash your face with a gentle cleanser at night, but don’t follow it with a serum, moisturizer, or anything else. In the morning, check your skin for oiliness and dryness.
Normal/combination skin types
Normal skin is neither dry nor oily. Combination is both — oily in some places (usually the T-zone, your forehead and nose), and dry in others. Our Balance Collection line for Normal and Combination skin are made from natural ingredients and is suitable for both of these skin types!
Use these products in the morning and at night, in this order:
- Aloe Herb Cleanser
- Neroli Toning Mist
- Probiotic Serum with Tremella
- Herbal Facial Oil for Normal/Combination Skin
- Anti-Aging Eye Cream
Use these products as you need them, about once or twice a week:
- Kaolin Micro Exfoliate—Apply a thin layer and gently exfoliate in a circular motion for one minute. Leave on for five minutes and rinse.
- Charcoal Cacao Mask — Wash your face and then apply mask generously, including around the eyes. For a spa-like experience and optimal results, before applying mask, open pores in bath or shower, or with a warm towel. Leave on for at least 15 minutes. Rinse off with wet towel and pat skin dry.
Anti-aging/dry mature skin types
This skin type is usually dry or in need of some extra moisture to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. If you fit this category but tend toward oily skin, the facial oil for normal/combination skin might be more suitable for you.
Use these products in the morning and at night, in this order:
- Aloe Herb Cleanser or Phytonutrient Cleanser
- Neroli Toning Mist
- Anti-Aging Serum and/or Wild Fruit Serum
The Anti-Aging Serum reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, plumping and nourishing the skin. The Citrus Stem Cell Serum brightens and evens the look of your skin tone. We recommend using the Citrus Stem Cell Serum morning and night for 30-40 days. Because this is a more nutritionally dense product, twice daily use in the long term isn’t right for everyone. It’s great to alternate the serums—Repair in the morning and Anti-Aging at night.
Use these products once or twice a week:
- Coconut Honey Mask—Wash your face and then apply mask generously, including around the eyes. For deep penetration, warm skin first with warm water or apply while soaking in a hot bath or sauna. Leave on for at least 15 minutes. Rinse off with wet towel and pat skin dry.
- Kaolin Micro Exfoliate—Apply a thin layer and gently exfoliate in a circular motion for one minute. Leave on for five minutes and rinse.
Oily skin types
This skin type tends to be oily.
Use these products in the morning and at night, in this order:
- Citrus Mint Cleanser
- Rosemary Toning Mist or Botanical Hydration Mist
- Citrus Stem Cell Serum
- Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin
- Anti-Aging Eye Cream
Optional: Add the Anti-Aging Serum in between steps two and three to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and to firm and tighten.
Use these once or twice a week:
- Purifying Mud Mask—Apply in t-zone, or to spot-treat an occasional blemish.
- Kaolin Micro Exfoliate—Apply a thin layer and gently exfoliate in a circular motion for one minute. Leave on for five minutes and rinse.
Sensitive skin types
This skin type is tends to have various sensitivities.
- Aloe Herb Cleanser
- Botanical Hydration Mist
- Anti-Aging Serum or Probiotic Serum with Tremella
- Herbal Facial Oil for Sensitive Skin
- Anti-Aging Eye Cream
Use these once or twice a week:
- Coconut Honey Mask—Wash face then apply mask generously, including around eyes. For deep penetration, warm skin first with warm water or apply while soaking in a hot bath or sauna. Leave on for at least 15 minutes. Rinse off with wet towel and pat skin dry.
- Ayurvedic Facial Scrub—Add about half a teaspoon of the powder to a dollop of the cleanser in your hand and mix. Use this mix to gently scrub and cleanse your face, then wash off.
We know that it can be difficult to find products that work for your skin. Pay attention to how your skin reacts to certain ingredients. Over time, you will know exactly what does and does not work for you!

This morning I received the anti-aging sample kit. After a good walk in the woods for two hours I treated myself with a nice warm bath (it’s still cold in The Netherlands!) and used the products. I’m 60, have Hashimoto’s and all of the sudden I got severe skin allergies, so I had to use perfume free products. And I already used very good, ‘EWG’ approved brands! Since the allergies have gone I am slowly returning to my favorite products. Well, one of them is defenitely going to be the Anti-Aging Facial Oil! And, the Aloe Herb Cleanser. Wow! I loved it! Since a long, long time my face was glowing again!

Hi, I’m 42 and I have extremely dry skin ever since puberty. I’ve eaten a ton of vegetables and fruits raw for almost 30 years. But they have not been organic but I cannot afford to eat organic where I live, I’m sure that’s a contributing factor. I hope your dry/mature skin products work for me. I do not have many lines and people say I look like I’m in my 20’s or 30’s. I’ve tried a lot of products made with natural ingredients. I already ordered a sample pack. I’m super excited thank you! Nothing seems to penatrste deeply into my skin enough. Uggh????

I’m curious re eye cream. Is the eye cream suitable for all type of eyes? It states it helps dark circles, how about pouchy bags. When I look at my reflection in the mirror I look tired and old. I enjoy being my age, but I don’t have to look years older. So, do you think your eye cream will be beneficial? I went back to where I have been buying my facial product and this includes their eye cream at over $100 a jar and they told me I’d need to be looking at botox or fillers. I’d appreciate your thoughts.

Hi!
Our Eye Cream is certainly suitable for all types of eyes! The best way for you to know if it will work for you is to try it out! If you’re not satisfied within two months, let us know and we’ll happily refund you for that so there’s no downside to trying it!

Hi,
I have rosacea on my cheeks, nose and even a bit on my forehead that can become rough and flaky, especially in the winter. I still have a somewhat oily T-zone, though I’m 55. I have the aloe cleanser, anti-aging oil and serum samples. The oil is a little too thick and doesn’t spread or absorb easily into my skin. What moisturizer do you recommend? Also, can I get samples of the coconut honey mask and ayurvedic scrub?
Thanks,
Jeannie

I highly recommend you use the Anti-Aging Serum and the Unscented Facial Oil. These products are great for sensitive skin while also providing anti-aging benefits.
To get a sample of the Ayurvedic scrub, check out our Getaway Sample Kit (you can always give the other samples away to friends if you don’t want them). https://shop.annmariegianni.com/products/sample-kit-the-getaway?variant=1124784585

I love the product but the smell is way too strong for me , I ordered two sample kits but both are very strong scented. I am wondering if there are unscented kits for combination, mature skin?
Annmarie Skin Care
Hi Margaret,
We don’t have an unscented sample kit, but we do have an Unscented Facial Oil. 🙂 Check it out here https://shop.annmariegianni.com/collections/facial-oils

Hello I have hyperpigmentation and have spent so much money buying products that never work including doing microdermabrasion for a year with no results what so ever. Nothing has worked so I’m skeptical to try these products. I have a hormonal problem which is what I believe is causing the hyperpigmentation so I don’t think anything will work 🙁

Hi! I’m currently using the Anti-aging sample kit. It’s only day two but so far I like it. I see that your eye cream is not available. That’s a product I definitely need but don’t want to use an oily one because my eye make up will run. Is this a product you will have again at some point?

Hi Lisa! Our Anti-Aging Eye Cream is now available in a 15mL size. Check it out – http://shop.annmariegianni.com/Anti-Aging-Eye-Cream-15ml-_p_256.html

Hi,
I have tried your $10.00 sample and loved both the Anti-aging serum and facial oil. I am 69 years old with very fair and rosacea skin. My rosacea is centered around my nose. I do watch my diet, but sometimes my nose reddens and is oily, and I will have minor outbreaks on my nose and/or cheeks. Otherwise my skin is good.
I looked at your mature skin selection, but I don’t want to aggravate my rosacea. Do you recommend I try your products for mature skin or do you suggest other options for me?
Thank you,
Linda

Hi Linda,
I recommend you use the Anti-Aging Serum and for your oil, I’d do the Herbal Facial Oil for Normal and Combination Skin. This one is a little lighter, while also moisturizing the skin.
Your skin will probably like both of our cleansers. The Aloe-Herb is more moisturizing, whereas the Citrus Mint is better for oily skin.
Hope this helps!

I have some questions.
1. How and with what do you recommend removing eye makeup?
2. I have some blackheads in my eye area? What should I do?
3. I also have some eye bumps or milia possibly…how are those removed or reduced?
admin
Hi Cynthia, thanks for writing in. 🙂 Here are some answers:
1. Most oils are great for removing make up! We think olive oil works the best! Jojoba and grapeseed work really well also. Coconut works, but can be a pain to use if it’s solidified.
2. Blackheads in the eye area could be happening due to a built up of creams or something you might be putting around your eyes. Gently exfoliating with something SUPER soft is advised. Our Ayrurvedic Facial Scrub would be great for this. http://shop.annmariegianni.com/Ayurvedic-Facial-Scrub-50ml_p_17.html
3. Milia also forms due to a built up of dead skin cells, oil/waxes, etc. They form closed comedones that are not able to be extracted unless by a professional – as they’ll usually “lance” it first. **this should always be performed by either a dermatologist or esthetician.

I’m 68 years old and have taken good care of my skin and my diet. It seems my skin type to be Normal, T-section oily and mature. I did get a sample and loved the anti-aging serum, and facial oil. My problem is melanin over production. I have controlled it with SkinMedica Tri-Retinol Complex. Some years back I used Renova. The latter worked very well. I’m now more aware of the harsh and dangerous chemicals in the products.
Would I be able to control this main problem with your products? I have tested them with my kinesiologist and my body accepted them.
Thankful,
Laura

Hi Laura~
If you’re main concern is dark spots & hyper pigmentation in the skin, I would recommend our Citrus Stem Cell Serum (in conjunction with the facial oil and the anti aging serum). You can simply alternate the two serums, morning & night.
Our Citrus Stem Cell Serum is very rich in Vitamin C, and Vit. C is a natural, safe & effective skin lightener. It is recommend to use daily for 30-40 days, and then start alternating every other day or two with the Anti aging Serum.
